Civilization V

I've noticed a difference. Anytime I played on the past there was always one AI that would just end up attacking everyone.

Diplomacy seems more stable now, I've seen them use a navy too and settle on diffierent continents. Still undecided on their battle AI though.

From what i've played so far, it seems like a good improvement. Also i'm not running out of gold all the time now.

So a big improvement from release then? I've been waiting for this game for so long!

I'm a big Civ fan but when I read all the problems I thought I'd best wait for the fixes to kick in (I don't really have the money o spend on something I can't use properly lol).

Hi guys i was hoping for a quickish reply if possible

Is Civ V a really good game as the reviews say?

Steam are selling it for £22.50 im guessing this is a decent price at present, can i play the game for a decent amount of time without worrying about the DLC packs?

Has the saved games issues been fixed?

The patch is definitely an improvement but the game is still a little wonky. Take the game I've been playing all weekend:

I was playing the States and was on the left side of an island, with Japan in the middle and Germany on the right. Early on in the game Japan declared war on me but as I was going for a cultural or scientific victory I held against the AI's rubbish attacks. Germany spent around a millennia attacking Japan and getting nowhere (poor AI again, they could have easily destroyed Japan) so finally after getting bored of spending production and resources on defending, I rolled into Japan and occupied both their cities. Next thing I know Germany thinks I'm a warmonger (this coming from the country at war with Japan for a thousand years) and they obliterate me with sheer weight of numbers. What a waste of time.

Now I'm playing as India, I have three large cities nowhere near anyone else and suddenly I've been denounced and I have the Mongols, Rome and England invading. Annoying.

I played this but stopped before the new patch, it just got frustrating and lacking in areas.

I played a game for ages, it spawned me right next to two independent states and was forced to settle to one side. The diplomacy was all over the place, the only thing that was consistent was allowing boarders open everything else was random. What I hated is other Civs land rush your areas and then say your too close to them or some other forcing to end any relations and fighting endless stupid AI waves. After finally getting muskets I pushed out, then out of freaking nowhere some ally of my enemy comes in with modern day tanks and helicopters (was Ramesses of all irony) completely destroying my Civ.

I haven't played other Civs but I found the AI pretty bad and the Diplomacy not even as good as the Total wars series from my experience.

Even after all that, I wish a game came out with the best bits of Total War and Civ, that would be awesome :(

in short, and at the moment, no it isn't. it's got potential, but unlike the other great titles in the series it is fraught with tonnes of problems which make the experience far less enjoyable. i haven't played since before the patch, and based on these reports won't be playing for another few patches either.

It's an excellent game, but still very flawed unfortunately. :(

Patches have helped a lot but it's got some way to go yet.

You can get Civ 4 plus the 2 expansions cheap if you look around. I would argue at this point in time, the Beyond The Sword expansion is the best in the Civ series so far. Civ V has so much going for it that it should be the best, but I just can't overlook the problematic A.I.

5 is still a work in progress, still got horrible memories of playing 3 without the last update on it (ai went to war based on how many turns you were developed ahead of them, not if they could win or if their economies fell apart when they did...).

Wouldn't recommend 4 though (unless its about £2 with all the updates) as the ai in that is just as tired, the approach it takes is more intelligent, but after 30 hours of game play it can become quite predictable. I know 5's ai can be a bit of a mess sometimes but there's more scope for it to improve (different variables to how it works more than anything else). Anyway im only basing 4 a little as some of it is so broken in the way you can abuse combat and the tech tree in it, there are only 2 or 3 decent paths up the tree that get you the best results (combined with golden age saving) and the old stack attacks are just silly now iv played 5 without it.

On the plus its out on mac (even if it looks terrible) which makes it that little better to get back into :)

i have stopped playing 5 and gone back to BTS,
will agree that 5 is flawed, but will improve, so sticking to bts foe now

On my second earth game, it lacks indepth stuff, it also lacks replayability, i cant see much difference between this and the third one. Wish some one would combine this, settlers ans sim city. This game needss more controll over citys and army.

I'm India, which to be successful you kinda need to be a small empire. I had 5 cities not long ago, one down south and one up north. Both of which were taken by the Russians and the Aztecs.

So now i have three cities and im in the middle of these two gimps and they are both at war with me.

Going for the cultural victory :)

Only Delhi left, so i've left for better things haha. Settler is on route to the unknown.
