Civilization V

Mine crashes after exactly one hour of play, which sucks, the screen just goes black but the cursor remains as does the music. Still enjoying it though, only played IV previously and I didn't enjoy it as much.

Turn leader scene quality down to medium.

The DX11 crash only happens when the leader scenes are on high. Mine used to crash all the time, but after I did that it works.

You have your game patched to the latest version with the latest GFX drivers and DX installed?

Does it work fine in DX9 mode?

The current problem that just about everyone gets in Civ V is memory leak issues with leader scenes on high quality. Everything else should be working.

The latest version is 1.0.1.167, altogether I think there have been around 7 updates if you include the hotfixes since the launch.

works fine in DX9 mode. Doesn't steam auto update the game? there has been 2 updates right?

Try leader scenes on lowest quality then in DX11. Napoleons screen was still crashing for me on Medium.

I'll turn it back to medium after and never have Napoleon in any of my games again :(

Me <3 Inca.

Am I the only one who doesn't much care for animated leader screens and would glady go back to a Civ IV style leaderhead thing?

It would improve speed without much detriment to the gameplay imo, since its not like the animated screens add much to you turn to turn business :)

Civ3 style would work for me. Yes CivV they are animated, but they dont DO much anyway, and i mostly skip through them as fast as possible... :p

I thoroughly enjoy playing Civ V, even if the AI is as dumb as a bag of spanners. But I have increased the minimum distance that each city can be built from each other. This alone has made playing the game a bit more pleasurable. Also by doing that the larger maps have fewer, but more developed, cities meaning it doesn't slow down quite as much.
I do wish that the game didn't have as much unit "dancing" going on - where on each turn many AI units move one hex up and then on the next turn back to where they were. They should remain fortified and thus cut down the time between turns. Also watching a scout crouching for 50 turns as a barb ship fires a few arrows at it is painful to experience, why the scout can't move I don't know.
Still it is a fun game to play :)

Inca + Western North America + Terraces + a load of super slingers = fun fun fun fun!

3 range, 2 shots per turn, indirect fire so the 3 tile range is never blocked, and march so they heal while shooting. Its rather odd that I only got 2 iron out of such a huge mountain range though, but two Swordsmen are all I need to cover my ranged units.

Its funny when they get melee attacked, they just magically pop back a couple of tiles and fire down on the attackers the next turn :D

The ranged unit upgrade path to riflemen makes me very very sad though :(

@bhavv - what are your PC specs to run this game at 1900x1200...? Also what is your performance like in the late era, if you play huge maps I guess that could make it worse..?

Do you set all the eyecandy settings to high..?

Mmm might install this again when my SSD replacement arrives. Sort of got sucked back into playing wow a lot when it came out so didn't play it as much as I wanted. Should keep me entertained until Shogun 2 atleast.

4.5Mb screenshot! :\

I've had a few games again since the January hotfix, which solved my crashing issue. It's an enjoyable game but every game I have just feels the same.

Im looking at my Steam install of this and i cant see any recent updates apart from Dec 2010.

There dosent appear to be any available either to dl ?

Everything is on max except leader scenes. Performance is fine throughout the game on huge maps.

I have a 4.2 Ghz I7 920, 12 Gb ram, and SLI GTX 560s though, and am running the game off Raid 0 Sammy F3s.
