Civilization V

...your PC specs might have some influence on how well it performs for you :D

Why the reduction in leader scenes was it due to crashing.? As I have never had a crash with all my settings on high.

Ok guys I've almost had it with this game :(

Decided to start playing again and now DX10/11 does not perform to any level at all  Tried rolling back to previous versions of the ATi drivers and also lowering detail/res etc but the same constantly stuttering performance!

Game runs perfectly fine when running in DX9 and just cant do so in DX10/11 for some reason. Game is installed through steam so fully updated/tried to verify etc. Not entirely sure how to solve it, even took out my CPU OC but due to there being no problems with any other games I'm at a loss sadly :(

Spec in sig pretty much! Win 7 64

Does the stuttering start after a diplomatic sequence begins? That used to happen to me all the time too in DX11. I believe there's a fix but I can't remember what it is unfortunately.

No sadly from the very start of a new game :(

I can tell straight off as when the steam community pop up appears it stutters as it minimises on the left hand side. As soon as I set up a map after loading it happens straight away...absolute nightmare.

No idea what change has happened or whats effecting it sadly!

Going to try a further re-install on Steam and make sure I delete all the left over folders/settings in my documents which should hopefully sort out the issues...well I can try this at least

so you have lowered the eyecandy (tessellation to absolute minimum etc) and it still stutters with the Direct X 11 exe...? Could you post the first five sections of your DX Diag..?
your OC CPU will be fine and in fact would be desirable playing this game.

Edit - bhavv - I love your screenie but please try and reduce its size, at 4.5mb it is kinda big :)

Out at the moment but will do so when home if the latest re-installation has complete! Tho the problem could lie deeper since I tried to install sp1 and a fantastic sequence of windows software crashes followed, needless to say that was removed haha!

also with tessalation I lowered that to the minimum and took out the amd optimoized option in catalyst in case it was causing issues.

*EDIT* sorted now with a re-install! Couldn't even load up DXDiag so something went seriously wrong at some point which could not be resolved!

I'm loving this game, runs just fine on the laptop. The Giant Death Robot is an absolute blast - especially when backed up by stealth bombers, cruise missiles and a couple of nukes.

Running without any issues for me in DX10/11 mode on my Asus 5742G-5464G50Mnkk.

bhav what the hell are those hexagonal field thingies?

Incan Terrace farms - can only be built in hills, +1 food, +1 additional food per adjacent mountain.

Inca + big mountain range = win :D

I'm waiting for the upcoming patch, its meant to be out this month and makes some huge changes to the game.

While Civ V isnt as good as IV, its still better than just about every other current strategy games, except Anno 1404.

Ah Incan Terrace farms? See thats how much I have played the game. I dont know about these! Presumably a civ specific improvement? Thats quite powerful I didnt think such a concept existed in Civ V!

Anno 1404 you say? I took a passing interest in that but never got round to playing it, that good you say?

Here are the official English forums for the Anno game...

I have both the main game and the addon installed and I can launch either.

I bought the games as they were released and so played them in that order. IIRC the addon added nothing new directly to the main game as that can still be played seprately from the addon.

Yea its a civ specific improvement, but thats not the ony thing that makes them powerful, their UA is Great Andean Road - Tile Improvements (just roads) cost no maintenance when built on hills, and cost half maintenance elsewhere.

Roads normally cost 1 gold per tile, with inca they are free on hills, and half cost on flat land. The amount of gold saved plus the amount of food you can get from a mountain range is insane, plus no one else can settle the places where inca can as they wouldnt have any growth.

I've had a few hill tiles surrounded by 4 mountains, they produce 5 food. Its possible to get a hill tile surrounded by 5 mountains max, as one adjacent tile needs to be open for access, and that would give +6 food, but I've never seen one in a random map, only on a custom map I made:

Massively cheating that is of course, but I just did it to test out the terrace farms, then went to random huge earth maps for Inca. With start bias, they usually start out either in Central Asia, or west America with huge mountain ranges abundant with hills. On a non Earth map, you hardly get enough mountainous space though.

A huge rebalance patch just came out today, the changes it makes are massively significant, and should make the game a lot more enjoyable:

http://forums.2kgames.com/showthread.php?104604-February-Patch-Notes

The Tradition + Liberty social trees are now much more powerful and provide a lot of extra free culture, and lots of buildings have been reworked and made cheaper to build. New turn loading times have also been reduced. The game should be quite a bit more rapid now, just just with the turns loading faster but with the changes made that improve and speed up productivity in the early game.

Just click the link to see all the changes, they are super nice!
