Civilization VI

The unit promotion seemed to fix itself, no idea what was wrong there.

Yes, there were other civs on the map. I guess it is possible Greece was at war with someone else and I hadn't realised, I'm sure I saved the turn before their demise, so might take a look.

Actually, would it be in a log somewhere?

Started a new game as Rome last night. The automatic creation of roads to new cities in trade route range is very handy. Waiting 200 turns to make a few roads is so boring!

Loving this. Have put in a frankly obscene amount of hours already. Hit more than a few bugs. Favourites seem to be being told I have units close to another civs borders (like 5, you can't ask them to move their units which is ridiculous :() so I move them, but then get a broken promise penalty for not moving them (even though I have). I've also had three instances of the game refusing to quit - not even task manager works. I know it's addictive but the computer needs to shut down sometimes!

AI is still thick as pig poo unfortunately. Someone like Roosevelt who hates warmongers on his continent but is quite happy to war wage for the most spurious of reasons. Then when you do a Holy War or even to aid a city state being attacked, he denounces you.

Music is good but miss the themed music from V (especially the Arabian theme and the Brazilian war music).

Well I've won my first game just awaiting the inevitable end. Way ahead on everyone with the strongest military and allied to 3rd and 4th strongest Civs. I'll probably take science victory this time round, been a decent play through but actually a little easy because of the island set up and not having any military issues. Whole game I've had a ten game war with Spain which resulted in me taking their capital, that's it :p

To be fair, that pretty much does accurately sum up the US, so its spot on really :D

Speaking of bad AI

How would you counter 10 missionaries turning up on your holy city in 1 turn and zapping it...

If i want to play a relegous game must i soley concentrate on that for a few turns to build up some kind of apostole defende force,,

My Little religeon was snuffed out about 10 turns after i got the great profit.

I dont actually Think regeon is that important now. infact saving up a huge pot of it then spending it all on Buildings or units when your governemnt allows is prety damn good of a boost.

One thing ive yet to try in 6 is a Culture Heavy civ. But they tend to be the most boring games for me. Turtling in and min maxing all the way.

Roosevelt typically implements' USA policies.
Everyone is a warmonger except themselves.

You can't. Religion is broken, once your city is converted there's no way to convert back unless you've already built Inquisitors of your own faith.

Re: the Norwegian fake culture victory - a lot of the notifications have been coded backwards, so 8th out of 8 is considered to be best because 8 is higher.

The game may have a better combination of mechanics than Civ 5 did on launch, but almost everything is bugged and they've taken out an awful lot of important things - sentry mode being top of the list - and there are a lot of balance problems too. If you haven't bought Civ 6 yet, I would recommend holding off for at least three months (until the Aztecs are on general release).

Inquisitors are key! Use these guys for defending over the apostle as there much cheaper on faith costs.

But yeah these guys are basically very cheap and can only roam on your territory, but can battle the other enemy religion units and use something called "remove heresy" on your cities to remove pretty much all enemy religion in one shot.

To unlock these guys you need to use the apostles "launch inquisition ability" on one of your converted cities.

It's not broken.

I've had the same situation and if you focus on dealing with them then you can. It's just a case of managing it especially if you want the religious win.if you don't want the religious win then it shouldn't matter if they take you over.

Btw guys, if the turn takes a lot of time to be processed, especially if you have made the maps bigger, just switch to Strategical view, before you hit ENTER for the AI's turn.

The turn will be processed significantly faster!!!!!!
(don't ask me why, contact firaxis about this)

I keep posting here and whining but im really disappointed with civ 6 now.

Its on par with the let down i felt for Beyond earth after 50h or so played.

I have faith it will be very good in the future but right now its just so meh.

The initial first game of learning was the best, districts are a nice change, but that is really the only thing that feels different to this and civ 5.

Its very pretty but its, for now, average.. Great for a new civ player but a hardened vet give it a year and it will probably surpass civ5

It is disappointing for no other reason other than basic mechanics are not working.
For example, Epic & Marathon speed affects only the Player not the AI. Making any game on those speeds broken. Let alone the barbarians who spawn 10-12 cavalry units on turn 6, burning your city before you manage to get third unit out. (AI civs are just bad if they are close to you).

Even BE vanilla was far far superior game on release. Civ V also.

I have gone back to playing Civ5, Civ6 looks bad and is as clumsy as hell.

There is also a lack of freedom to do what you like that was one of the attractions of Civ5.

I'm not a hardcore to the bone Civ fan but I play every incarnation and I think this is one of the best releases. Bit harsh comparing it against a game with multiple expansions/fixes.

There are kinks but I don't see anything game breaking, as I say not hardcore Civ though so maybe I miss something.

It is harsh but BE started where BMW left off pretty much it is a funky reskin.

Civ 6 has every Element of civ 5 +2 expansions from launch, it should be good from the go.

DLC will just be maps scenarios and new leaders for current nations and the odd new nation.

Civ 6 is all there, they just need to polish it up and work on it another 6 months.

Also mars mission for sci victory?
Why did they change from Alpha centui ?
That really peed me off lol

I guess they just felt it was a bit more realistic/topical. It's a bit odd to leap straight to exploring new solar systems when you haven't even explored your own.

The game certainly has bugs but I'm enjoying it, and I'm enjoying it much more than I enjoyed the base version of Civ 5. I think the most annoying thing for me is some of the AI quirks.

I'm liking the game the changes of districts and other features are giving me more to think about and keeping me active. I do however find the nature of the available information really weak. There is no defence/military advisor unless I'm being dim, so I have no good overview of what forces I have unless I look for them or what the implications of the numbers are. The process for reviewing my cities is kind of hotchpotch press a button here for that bit, press a button there for the other bit. Whilst it is grindingly traditional a single screen with my tile data, income data, building data etc is really useful and makes management much better. Ultimately I like the feel of the game and new mechanics I just need it re-skinned so I can access it all.

Also do we have any Stone Roses fans in the thread? Are you guys humming along to "Elizabeth My Dear"?
