I was reading a government petition in the US to move to DST and everyone was raging. It would mean in some areas it's still pitch black at 0830 (i.e. during school runs etc). Everyone was much more in favour of keeping standard time.
Age old thing of different things suiting different people I guess - I have no kids and no school run to consider. I just know I have long working days and in winter 0 daylight outside of working hours. At least I can get stuff done in summer and more-so with BST extra hour in the evening even if it does mean commuting in darker mornings.
It doesn't feel socially acceptable to use powertools on the driveway before work at 6am even if it is daylight for example. Wheras 6pm after work feels way less wrong if it's daylight still (arguably could still do this but massive pain if its dark)
Interesting the US voted in favor of making the daylight saving time permanent when scrapping it, that I'd be ok with
