CM690 XSPC RASA 750 RS 240

Thanks mate, that's what I do with my air cooled HS, but I thought I'd better ask even though it was a dumb'ish question.

No such thing as a dumb question. but many dumb things have been done cos people didnt ask. seem to remember there were brief instructions on the mounting of the block, but be aware that these are the only instructions included. google is your friend and of course all the great help available on these forums

Remember I said I was going with a bit of an Orange theme?

Well having been very impressed with the BitFenix fan cable I have I went the whole hog and decided to outfit the rig with a full set of Orange BitFenix cables.

I'm going to review them as a job lot later on, however I can tell you now the quality of the fan cable I reviewed is not a one off and is reflected in the full range.

I actually have 24pin ATX cables by both NZXT and Phobya knocking around somewhere so will do a compare and contrast type review on them.

Mean time a few pics of the Goodies from those great guys at ?????????? (removed by G-Dubs in respect of forum rules).

The ones I have are only the tip of the iceberg compared to the full range

Plenty more photos of the cables to come,

Also have some rather vivid XSPC Orange tubing

Some black braid to give a bit of contrast

And a kill coil to stop it all tuning swampy in there.

Looking great G can't wait to see the effect you get.

Cheers Matey. Here's a bit of a progress report that should start to show the change in appearance.

The clear is out and the orange is in.
Really rather liking the look of it, what do you guys think?

The quality and feel of this XSPC tubing is much better than that of the stock tubing that comes with the kit.

Not that the stock tubing is in any way bad, it's not, my reasons for changing were purely aesthetic and down to personal taste, and for a few quid a metre (£2.39 to be exact) it's hardly breaking the bank is it. And as this stuffs UV reactive I may have to get me a UV tube in there.

Next step is to re commence leak testing then get the cabling in.

That looks epic mate. Thinking of doing the same in my white one, but with blue instead of orange. But black & orange = win.

Also can you post pics of the cable management round the back when you have done it?

Cheers Sponge. I think White and Orange will look very nice, I almost did that combo on a previous build so will be looking forward to seeing how it looks

Well I've decided to forgo the leak test in favour of getting the cabling sorted
I said at the start of this thread that I would be using it not only as a build log but also as a vehicle for appraising the qualities of this case. essentially like an in depth review.
Initial thoughts with regards to the CM 690 cases cable management have been re enforced now that I've actually started to build into it.

The cable tie cut outs on the rear of the mobo tray are a godsend (ok more would be good but you can't have everything). Also there's plenty of room and very little obstruction

My one real criticism though is that once you remove the lower HDD rack section a whole area of the cable management section becomes very visible, so it's hard to hide all those Molex and satas supplying your HDDs and DVDs etc. Despite saying I would not be modding on this case I might end up making a little blanking plate to cover this area.

Also. it didn't immediately dawn on me that although the case has cable management holes, they do not have those nice little rubber grommets on them to hide the cables as they pass through. Only a few quid I'd have thought and would have made such a difference.
OK so a few pics of the cable management so far.
The starting point, lots of cables and a lot of thinking about where the heck t put them all. You can clearly see the obvious void behind and below the HDD rack where it's not possible to hide cables

How many Orange cables??? man these cables are nice.

Getting started

Big boys are pretty much in, just got to sort all the little ones now.

yeah right:)

That atx mobo cable is driving me nuts. I'm still not happy with it. I mean it fits and everything, but it just doesn't look tidy (and yes I know the back will never be seen but I still want it tidy)

Got the DVD drive in now ready to be wired up

Few more cables in place. Having to do this a bit at a time because it's driving me nuts. Not because it's a bad case, it isn't but because there's just so many wires.

The BitFenix cables are very nice to work with, very flexible and pliable

Looks very very good!

Assuming the braided cables can be had in other colours, could you message me where you got them from please?

Keep the updates coming - I'm looking into this case in the future!

Message sent matey

I can also highly reccomend this case. Nice to work on and a good price for what you get. very few negative points and nothing major.

This is very nice! I am thinking about watercooling my case (not the GPU's) :p A few questions ;)

1) Is it very difficult to install it?
2) Is it likely to spill?
3) What temperatures are you getting?
4) I assume this isn't as good as a custom loop?

What other equipment would I need to buy (Coolant, Kill coil, etc)?

I know exactly what you mean G I felt overwhelmed with the skelly in this sense, you want to add all kinds of cool stuff but at the same time ur adding wires!!!

I've just water-cooled my pc (click my sig for the build log), so I can give you an answer from my experience :)

1. No, just make sure you do some research, and maybe a bit of planning for tubing and cable routing.
2. Best bet to be safe is to leave just the pump connected to the psu, and leave it switched on for 24 hours
3. Can't comment on g-dubs loop, but my temps have dropped to about 65 degrees on an i7 860 with 1.4v going through it :)
4. This is actually a custom setup as he had to build it himself, non custom setups are things like the H50 and H70 :)

Shayper has just about covered it.
1. Not hard to install but does require thought and planning with regards to how you're going route the tubes. Plenty of examples on the tinterweb and plenty of help on the forums.

2 There is always a risk of a leak but that is why you leak test. A good 24 hours with just the pump running will show any problems before you power up the rest of the PC. In my experience most leaks are slight, show up straight away and be resolved by simply tightening something up.

3. This project isn't finished yet but others i've done have shown a good drop in load temps (idle will remain about the same). The decrease in load temps is what enables you to push that overclock just that little bit.

4. Although this was bought as a kit it is still essentially a custom loop in that all the parts can be bought seperately. XSPC have just been forward thinking enough to bring together parts that all work well together thus removing a lot of the confusion that can be caused by an enthusiast trying to work out what goes with what.

You'll need coolant (I use pure water but there are a miriad of other options)
You'll need something to stop the algae growing. I use a kill coil in my other loops and so far no swamps

Don't know if OCUK sell these but if not let me know and I can let you know where I got mine. (can't link to it for obvious reasons)
