COD Black Ops looks pretty good on PC

I would humbly submit that Black Ops is the best COD yet - it does have some issues like the no team choosing, but the removal of IWNET (bleurgh), martyrdom, juggernoob, stopping power, commando, killstreak reward kills THAT COUNT TOWARDS YOUR KILLSTREAK TOTAL, quickscoping, nukes, OBSCENE NADE SPAM (COD4 I'm looking at you), poor map design (*cough*shipment & crossfire*cough*) and the delicous nerfing of noob tubes make for the most balanced and enjoyable COD yet.

Any other pints of view? I'm off to test the new patch.

*edit* also I love flak jacket

hahah good joke.... oh wait you were being serious?

Yes the removal of a few perks was a good move, specifically Martyrdom and Commando, the removal of Stopping Power doesn't really make sense but whatever. Either way Last Stand should've been on the list of perks never to be seen again.

But lol @ map design. Half of the BO maps are basically slimmed down versions of CoD4 maps and Nuketown is no better than Shipment as far as noobfests go. And as for grenade spam? What game are you playing exactly? Warlord Pro gives you 2 Lethal 2/3 Tactical. Upon respawning you get them all back again. Grenade spam was only ever a problem on CoD4 on specific maps, Wet Work was a particularly ****ty 1 for it. Other than that its no different to how it is now.

Fair point on Last Stand and Nuketown - last stand is incredibly lame and Nuketwon is not conducive to tactical play. I could argue though that at least it gives the impression that the level designers put some actual effort into making the level as opposed to plonking down some cargo containers then knocking off for tea - but then again I do quite hate it so yeah fair enough Nuketown does suck.

With regard to nade spam and level design I can't agree with you - you're gonna have to give me examples of levels that are slimmed down versions of COD 4 levels because I cant think of any. Array is new and pretty massive come to think of it. The thing with nade spam is that dying from grenades is now a possibility as opposed to a certainty for COD4 - especially in COD4 HC, and then MW2 with Sonic Boom (or was it Danger Close?) to exacerbate the problem - Showdown and downpour were both hideous for that - alternate routes were non-existent so you were funnelled into the killing bottleneck unless you camped on the periphery - this was symptomatic of a lot of COD4 maps.

Don't get me wrong - I enjoyed COD4 loads; Pipeline and Strike were my faves, but even though you can still get your hands on quite a few grenades in BO, the lower playercount and useful mitigating perks like flak jacket and tactical mask pro go a long way to making the game experience a lot less like one continuous explosion.

Patch has massively improved sp for me, just played through a couple of levels and got no stutter at all. Very happy that I can finally try it :).

Does anyone know if the patch has fixed the savegame bug for singleplayer. My game crashes on the gas level when you are in a hazmat suit and when I reboot and try to play again it starts me from the very begining of the level. Very annoying when you have to start about 20 mins earlier in the storyline each time.

Dunno but try quitting manually at the last checkpoint before it crashes, then it should sync with Steam cloud when you exit the game. Perhaps if it then crashes later on, it will restart from that checkpoint and not the start of the level? That's what I would try anyway.

I've played a few MP games, I don't know if the patch has improved performance for me, I can't honestly tell. I do notice that the final killcam has been fixed which is welcome. (edit - I say 'fixed'. It isn't fixed properly because now it is just like a normal killcam. The one in MW2 slowed to to slow motion in the final few seconds, that is how it is meant to be. But this is still better than it was.)

I see there is a new option in the graphics settings to do with shaders, which by default is off. I have tried with it off and on. I previously had shadows off, now I've turned them on. I don't think it is any different to before quite honestly. It still isn't as smooth as I'd like.

I had fraps running to see if the patch had improved my framerate and the answer is no, although the framerate is adequate on paper, it just doesn't look or feel as smooth as the number suggests it should be. On the experience of the few games I played, I think I will be turning shadows off again to get extra smoothness.

This game is weird, I mean I only get 45fps in the MENUS but get more than that in game. The menus are still laggy, the pointer is sluggish etc. as before. (edit - I tried COD4 and COD WaW and they also give 45fps in menus so it must be a COD thing, I never noticed before because in those games the menus and pointer aren't sluggish.)

They also haven't listened to people who asked for more time at the end of matches and the ability to modify classes between rounds.

Also the server browser is still VERY slow compared to all my other games. They don't seem to have made any improvements there.

Another thing which seems to be a bug - has anyone else had this?

When I got to level 7 prestige and you unlock another class slot, it says 'NEW' by it which is correct. However, after I select it once, the 'NEW' should then disappear. It doesn't. It won't go away.

If I look at the classes outside of a match, 'NEW' does not appear. But if I open the classes screen DURING a match, it DOES appear again. I tried making a custom class in that slot even though I don't need it, and it made no difference.

I am now at prestige 8 and it is still there.

This new patch has made no difference. This game is beyond a joke. Come on treyarch fix you game. And actually sort the weapon damage out while you at it.

I personally was fine pre patch, the first fight was a bit iffy cos of stuttering/caching.

Now the first fight with anyone with a "new sound" is a minor lock up/rapid stutter which when in CQ is a death sentence. It is usually all fine after the first 30s but it can happen multiple times for me.

id like to see the knife made into a weapon you have to switch too leave it as a 1 shot kill by all means but, sort it out.
