COD Black Ops looks pretty good on PC

Look at this for a laugh, dropped my res to 1920x1080 with crossfire still enabled and look how low my framerate still managed to dip.

And that wasn't the lowest, i seen it spurt down to the 60fps range. Top marks to treyarchs coders, they sure know how to manage to totally balls up a game.

Matter of interest G, I am totally impressed with 11.8s on Black Ops (I reported this in thread in Gfx forum) as they seem to have nailed fps drops for me, have you chanced just using a single GPU? (or 11.8s and latest CAP perhaps with ur cf?)

..... Maybe your problems are caused by camping with a crossbow? :p :D

Turn off shadows, gerard, christ knows what treyarch did, maybe they applied ambient occlusion to everyone's internal organs. It's amazing that they can take a flawless, brilliantly optimized engine and bring it to it's knees by making a handful of little changes. Hats off to them.

Grrrrrrr.... latest patch makes this crash in the menu system; whether creating a class or trying to browse servers. Thanks for fixing the random gameplay crashes Treyarch, but do you think you could design a menu system that isn't totally broken too?

Reinstalled this last night and had a quick blast just now, still very low gpu usage but its playing incredibly smoothly. None of the stuttering i experienced before. Will have to play it a bit more as it was pretty good fun

I'm still playing this now and again. It's ok for a quick blast and as setter says is reasonably smooth now.

@ panyan: There is no server run by anyone on this forum that I am aware of. There were 3, TFU x2 and LTUK, but I took mine offline due to the bugs which made a completely vanilla server crash when it got busy and I think TFU have since taken theirs down too...

So it goes down to 60fps, who cares in the end? Sure it should be way higher but does it really matter?

Yes it does, the movement feels sluggish when its been up at around double that framerate and the weapons also seem to fire slower as the framerate plummets.

The fact you're saying "does it really matter" is laughable, it just shows how much of an afterthought this version was, its been buggy since day one especially where framerate is concerned and its still not fixed. 4.5ghz cpu and 2 6970's and this piece of **** still manages to tank down below 60fps, ive seen the framerate go down to 40 odds on some maps. But yeah you're right, all this power and it can't run properly, clearly it doesn't matter.

This is as far as I got in the CoD series and I don’t think I finished it, so starting this one again :D

Going to play through a few I think. I have BO2 and advanced warfare in my library still to play. Think I played MW2, not sure about 3.

That said, was surprised to see it stuck at 91fps on a 7900XTX and 7800X3D. I guess there’s a cap.

There is a default FPS cap of 85 but it results in 91 due to rounding precision. I can't remember the CVAR to change it now.

IIRC stopped playing the game due to stutter and stuff despite enjoying it in many ways and getting a lot of crazy scoring games.
