COD : WaW Beta

Ok danny :)

I didn't play 360 long enough to realise but.. On PC we teach ourselves to reduce recoil by bringing the mouse inwards/towards our bodies. It's a tad harder to achieve similar effects with a controller.

I agree. COD4 is ridiculously easy (on the PC for me) to rack up kills. The recoil (or lack of it) however makes it very arcadey, but I find it rather fun :)

Which is the major issue, its a nice game, its fun... but is just designed so anyone can get a rack of kills out of nothing. Having skill makes a lot less of a difference when some juggernaught / marty / p90 totting small business owner comes running out from around a corner... in CS his skill would define the outcome and its not that skilled people don't excel in CoD4 its just why should they be getting killed as a gameplay design choice rather than an actual mistake they made?

I play CoD4 competitively and win money on the PC, so naturally i have to be good at it and my keyboard + mouse allows me to be far greater than anyone with a pad.

You say that, but then you haven't played me.:D

I don't think the gap between PC/mouse+keyboard players and 360/pad players is a great as the PC games would like to think.

The weapons in CoD4 don't have recoil fella. It is SUCH an easy game, have you ever played CoD1?

Retype as.

Modern weapons have less recoil than there 1940 counterparts.

I dont think it makes a huge difference here. There is never the perfect gun in COD4 and people play with a large range of choices. PC is obviously a different type of game, i can imagine its much easier. What I dont get is how you are pulling in PC comparisons to X360 players saying its too easy and then go onto to state you cant get on with the controller at all?

Thats the point isnt it? Practice and skill soon sort out who are good console players and who are not.

Maybe so, but i played a glorified 360 cod4 gamer on his home turf.

We played both game modes and i managed to come out on top, but gawd i hated the inaccuracy that is brought in with pads.

I used to play FPS on PS2 for years so i have a little understanding of how they work.

He refused to play me on PC :(

I still can't get my head around people still comparing all modern/decent FPS online games to CS. It's not the pinnacle of FPS gaming, it was just the best of an average bunch when it was released and has since gained an almost cult following. :)

CoD4 is FUN. The most fun I've had on a console online. PC would probably be one of the BF games, BF2 I'd say.

:) I think it's what you get used to. I've been playing CoD4 360 since its release. I consider myself a good player, like many of the people on these boards (certainly a few GREAT players on here too!) but it does become second nature using a pad just like a mouse/kb combination.

Its the pinnacle of competitive FPS gaming, which is what im alluding to. If you're playing a game for fun, 30 minutes here and there, the fine tuning of which weapon does what damage and which does what recoil etc isn't a major issue (if an issue at all) to you, so you aren't the target market of my angst :P

Yea it is the don of competitive games :p

I mean the Grand Final in New York is £500,000 prize pot :o

Did he even have a gold cross around his neck? :D

Maybe he was a X360 owner who enjoys playing COD4? Im not sure where the correlation between playing it and being awesome at it actually comes in, much like most things in life. Football included.

Odd route to go in this thread but still. One would have hoping it woud have been WaW discussions with previous games as benchmarks rather than psuedo comparisons and opinions on a game some players havent played yet

What guns/perks do you use a lot/most?

edit: Heh no Jonny he didn't :D

But i see your point, we are heading off course a little :)

Thing (as usual) is people on the PC think they are great at the game then complain because they do crap on consoles as they can't use a pad.

Wake up - everyone is using the same hardware with the same pad! If you keep dying its not a fault of the console but more the fact your crap with a pad.

Its not like Pc where the server; mouse type; hardware; fps/gfx settings; connection; etc all have an effect. Plus of course all the hack and cheats like aimbots come into play.

I don't play for money, I go to work for that, I simply enjoy playing with a good group of guys we have on here. From playing COD4 i even managed to join Wiggis's football team! I'm not interested in spending hundreds or thousands to play competitive PC games.

The fact that for me COD: Waw seems more arcadey than 4 seems to be missed. I wish they would make it so the long range guns really were needed at long range. As daany says you can be sniping someones only for them to shoot you with a thompson (this can happen on 4, but certainly not on normal only hardcore.

Your playing a game, not firing a real gun.

Well we all manage fine on controller, i just aim slightly lower as i fire. Recoil doesnt seem to be much of an issue when you burst fire anyway

:(

CoD1/2 rifles played such a big role i HOPED they would bring that back in Waw >_<

m16 with red dot would do the same on cod4 in any game mode you want

which is why you're missing out on the spraylol cannons, all the weapons in cod4 can snipe people full auto from across a map (atleast none of the maps in cod4 are big enough for the recoil to be an issue) ... moving your mouse down slowly as you happily hold you left mouse is all you need to achieve that, its pretty silly.
