Cod4 and 1080P

It's a perfect example of why 1080p shouldn't be forced out prematurely.

Absolutely. I've always been one of the people saying it's not necessary, nor is the current hardware set out to make full use of it. I remember reading an article in a 3D magazine about it and some of the numbers would surprise some people in terms of just how much of an effect 1080p has over 720p in terms of performance, especially for such little improvements.

i think RR7 looks lush, and it's a great game to boot, i just hate it when it's so low res that the game looks blurrry. F1 is a bad example of this. It's horrible!!! i just hope the next version has full res, and F1 sholdn't be hard to do at 1080P it doesn't have much more to do then RR7 in terms of geometry

Firstly guys thanks for the entertaining thread.....

Whats the issue here, right someone says the current consoles cant handle 1080p?
Well they can we know that, the 512mb video memory discussions is pants and who the hell even bothers bringin PC tech into the debate for comparison.

Correct the consoles would struggle with such resolutions because games themselves now are much more technical than the previous gen. The size of the gaming worlds, the physics, AI and then the additional pixel shifting required for the 1080p res.

Drawbacks have to be made to fit within in most cases the capability of the games rendering engine more so than what the hardware can achieve.

What a console can achieve continually keeps getting pushed with smarter more efficent coding. Moving from SD-HD has taken developers a while and if anyone here thinks weve seen the best out of any of the current consoles then i find that hard to believe.

Res isnt the annoyance with most of you gamers its the visible "Jaggies"
Give me a 720p game with AA yet maintaining lots of great effects and shaders to enhance the whole game and im more than happy. Jaggies are annoying and spoil a game graphically but were we moaning about jaggies in the PS2/Xbox1 era?.
Forza2 was the biggest example of this all year with some people screaming in agony in disgust at how the lighing model in the game highlighted so badly the jaggies.

One part many of you are forgetting is that most 1080p TVs or displays generally offer higher specs in various departments of picture performance, their not just higher resolution. So even though most of your games may not be in full 1080p you sould find that on your 720p game the quality of the colours, black level and the general abilities of your snazzy new 1080 screen make your games look nicer than your older 720 based screen. Therefore purchasing a 1080 screen isnt redundant at all even for gamers.

Less than 10% of the people here actually have 1080p screens so the debate is pointless for a lot of you moaning about it. Its also more likely we wont see Xbox 3 till late 2009 or 2010. Oh and by then 1080p screens wll be the norm.

Look on AV Forums and you will find many guys are sitting with 50"+ HDTVs and projector screens with massive 120"+ full 1080p games from their PCs. If youve got the money and want full 1080 games well the PC can provide it no problem.

Just dont moan about consoles that cost £200 - £300 which cant achieve what a £1500+ PC can.

Some of you really need to catch yourself on, for me the consoles improved greatly graphically in the last year or two.
PGR4 and COD4 are two titles that compared to their X360 originals have greatly moved on.

Good post MR Latte.

So Hi spec PC for all the goodies then!

Well theirs a problem too.
Take the newest eye candy king "Crysis"

Having recently got a1080p projector i was really tempted to get back into PC gaming. I havnt been a PC gamer in a long time but knew 1080 games would be possible on PC. This past week ive gone through all the emotions of will i wont i upgrade?

However im not willing to spend £600+ on graphics and another £500+ on CPU/Mobo/Ram etc to still find even with a very high end spec that i wont get to enjoy "Crysis" in full detail at 1080 res. Most games yeah no problems but if im spending that money i want ALL games for at least the next year to run like a puppy.

As mentioned earlier by Kreee its more important for most to have great visuals and effects that further the visual enjoyment, heighten the gaming world impact than the actual visual resolution. Console games are doing amazing things if you consider the hardware differences and tbh in COD4 whats so superior in the PC version isnt it really much the same visuals but with higher res? Alternatively i could say show me a more complete or better looking racing game than PGR4 on any format at the moment, has th PC even got anything close?

FPS if anything is a very unfair comparison particulary as the PC is so dominant in this genre.
Remember for value for money, range of games and quality/services on offer you cant beat the X360.

If anyone really wants 1080 games and all the bugs/patches and driver issues the PC suffers with well let them enjoy it.

.

To be fair though you don't need a £1500 PC to run most games at 1080p with AA (Crysis being the exception, of course).

You could build my PC for about £390 (performance wise anyway, not counting my quite expensive case, extra HDs etc.)

8800GT ~ £165
e2160 (I have an e6300, but they're comparable) ~ £40
Gigabyte p31 board - £50
Cheap case - £15
PSU - £40
DVD Drive ~ £15
160gb HD ~ £30
2gb DDR2 ~ £35

When you consider that there could be cause for some complaining (at least when games run below 720p, as this was claimed to be the minimum res for this gen). Of course you have to remember that the consoles aren't exactly new, so the comparison isn't all that fair.

I am actually having more problems with patches on my 360 than PC :p Halo 2 won't work at all when I sign into live, when I don't sign into live it won't load a map.

Halo 3 doesn't scale properly when I used the VGA cable. Oh well, they're the only problems I have had with it.

720p will still be the norm by the time the next gen consoles arrive. 1080p is overkill unless your talking very large screens, which most people dont need/want.
