Command and Conquer Generals 2 Thread

Can someone quickly sum up the present news on the game as I'm about to dash off to a meeting at work. I've seen F2P mentioned a few times in this thread upon scanning it. Please say it isn't so!

'Game' will be released as a free download but the level of playability before additional costs are incurred is currently up for debate, ranging from predictions of only paying for additional 'skins' for units to the basic free game only giving you base units/buildings unless you pay for better ones.

The 'game' will be released with NO singleplayer campaign, and "content will be made" once the game is released. So essentially the base free download is more like a game engine with a couple of skirmish maps in it, and then you'll have to wait (and buy) any additional maps, units, etc.

And i doubt they plan on making a 'traditional' C+C live video acting singleplayer experience if it's going to be a downloadable add-on. :mad:
 
I just hoping they have multi human vs AI skirmish ability. I can never be bothered with the full online play and would rather just play teamed up with a mate or two reaming some AI butt.

Sounds like its just going to be on-line multiplayer though... I suppose its another way to cut costs. No single player campaign, no AI.....
 
I have a very short list of companies that know how to execute free2play right, EA isn't anywhere close to the list. Move along people there will never be anything to see here...
 
I haven't bought a C+C game since Generals and Zero Hour came out but I have all the games in the series up to that point. C+C really is dead now :(

Red Alert 2 + Yuri's was by far the best in the series and for me went downhill after that. Generals was quite good but change from a sidebar to using JCB's to build buildings was odd.

Yet another good series ruined by EA! Tiger Woods PGA Tour is now an online game and not a patch that TW PGA Tour 8 is because so many people could build custom courses and hold tournaments. Now none of that is achievable.

Because associating this tripe with generals is:

1: An insult to the memory of Generals
2: Setting the bar waaay too high for this game to ever achieve

I haven't felt this sad with a game since I found out how badly Square-Enix had ruined Supreme Commander 2, what should have been a major threat to Starcraft 2 turned out to be a pile of garbage, ironically because the new bosses decided to dumb it down to better compete with Starcraft 2 and appeal more to console monkeys :(

EA ruin everything they touch, part of me is dreading Mirror's Edge 2. :( After Tiberium Twilight though, it's not surprising they ruined this, too.

Not just EA

Ubisoft is heading that way they have just made anno online, made an awful DRM etc
 
But surely if it had skirmish mode then everything is still cool? I only ever really played skirmish mode, but occasionally played the SuperGeneral challenges.

CoH2 looks fantastic, but a little disappointed that they didn't try to include the Japanese in there. A Japanese army would have such massive potential, kamikaze, no tanks, fearless infantry etc. Jungle island landscapes, would be amazing and take me back to the days of Sudden Strike 2 and Blitzkrieg.

the formula is there. What people want is known. It surely must make money? Why ruin it? This was the one releasr i was looking forward to. Might havent bought a pc game yet this year
 
They do this because they know they can get away with it!, they know that complete morons will buy into it and then say " the feedback was good, we need to design more like it ".


BF3 would be so so much better for example if people actually stood up instead of throwing money away :(
 
EA are going to charge for every time you reload your weapons, BUT if you buy a premium pass then it is free and you don't have to pay to shoot! Ea are so kind sometimes :)
