Community ! Can't believe there isn't a thread.

Season 1 was mostly better, season 2 had a few too many not ordinary episodes. The first season was just guys at college, doing fairly normal things and excellent writing, the second season the "film" copying of almost every single episode, it was far more gimicky, and rather than just going through an ep and making witty jokes about normal situations almost every ep in season two the jokes came directly from whichever film was being copied.

It wasn't bad, but it was a fairly big change in the formula. I mean first season, chicken episode/mafia movie tie in, but thats one of the only real episodes like that, season 2 its almost every episode. YOu have Troy in his Good Will Hunting tie in, but its a sub plot, its a small part of the episode, series 2, space program, accidental launch, etc, etc, the entire episode is based on it, it wasn't a day, or several days in the life of college in various locations, it was all about one thing.

Neither is bad, or wrong, the second season felt less connected and less "real" than season one for me, there was more completely bat **** crazy characters and idea's and they took certain characters to weird extremes, Pierce was much funnier and less completely nuts in season one.

I mean series one made sense, series two has, zombie ep, stop motion animation, etc, etc, I don't think series 2 HAD to have a gimmick every episode but it pretty much over relied on it.

She has good and bad angles but she still looked hot.

I guess they wanted focus on Annie more too because of her character development later on.

I'm not sure If she started out with it, but she seem to be starting to develop a Michael Jackson nose too.
I really really started to dislike Jeff and Britta by the end of season 2 (they become so vain and whiny), I never like Shirley (her voice just grates on me). Really I was just hoping for a tiny bit less Abed (even though he's funny) and a bit more Troy, Chang and Pierce, not to mention maybe a bit more partial nudity from Annie.

Troy, Abed, Annie and Chang are my favourite characters. Pierce does have some great one liners though.

After just watching the first paintball ep of season 2, how is it I haven't seen a gif of Annie running down the hallway in some cowboy corset, in slowmo.

One of the reasons I like season two is because it reminds me of Spaced in many ways. Of course, there's a certain amount of over reliance on the whole in joke/reference thing which is probably why I prefer season one on the whole.

Totally disagree. What made season 1 so good was the razor sharp one liners, great characters (with a bit of back-story - what happened to all the interesting characters the main group were getting involved with?! Small nipples guy, hot professor woman etc ... and the possible interest between some of the main characters), the chemistry building between the characters and the fact that it had a story that was flowing through the episodes.

Season 2 so far has just been somewhat ridiculous set pieces/storylines that feel completely jarring compared to the AMAZING first season and, IMO, no where near the the quality. They should not have changed the format in the way they did.

I was laughing throughout the first season, some real classic/hilarious moments... only had a few chuckles from the second.

I don't think the format has changed, but I do think there's been a shift in focus in some regards. It's now taken for granted that we know and are attached in some way to them. The characters themselves haven't ever been "great" - they're all basically one dimensional but that's part of the parody and they play with that a lot more in season two.

As a show, it still lacks character development but that's ok; most sitcoms do (actually, it's a well known fact in the industry that if you have a comedy show on a big network like Fox of NBC then "safe" sitcoms which pretty much follow the same generic patterns are going to be have good ratings and so forth, hence the commercial failure of Arrested Development - the majority of the public would rather watch nonsense that require very little in the way of attention such as Friends or How I Met Your Mother as opposed to Arrested Development etc). By distancing us from the characters even more and putting them in more outlandish, extreme situations like they do in the second season I can see why the writers feel that's logically funnier. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't, however it does make it stand out from many other mainstream comedies that are on TV just now.

And you really don't get more mainstream than NBC, which is why certain sitcom conventions are still used, it's just not afraid to openly mock them.

Don't forget that the monkey living in the air vents is Annie's Boobs from the Chicken Fingers ep that Abed released. Love the continuity.

Re-watching the show last night, the D&D episode is hilarious.

The biggest problem with Season 3 will be all us people who caught up in the last couple of weeks having only a single 20min episode a week!
