Community Fibre

Ive been on CF for a few months now. Running perfectly, never had any drop outs, speeds are consistently 900+ mbps. For the £25 a month, well worth it! Latency is amazing for gaming too (<1ms to google).

Ffs I would have gotten this but opted for the 1gb as ghat was the only deal available
Surely they will let you upgrade no? Even though it's mid-contract.
Not with CommunityFibre myself so can't speak on them, but Vodafone happily upgraded me while I was already in a contract & gave me a new one.

They know that a 3Gbps service will sit idle for just as much as a 1Gbps one and cost them very little to provide over a 1Gbps one, but it does help them get the data to advertise along the lines of "London's fastest broadband", while nearly doubling revenue over the 1Gbps service. It's a fairly clever initiative.

I believe what @Turn said is correct, and even if not, there's no harm giving it a shot in contacting them and asking if you're allowed to "upgrade" the connection (which most companies allow, just not downgrade or exit the contract). The external line, internal won't need to change, and I believe you only need to change your ONT/Modem, as the Adtran one is 1gb only.

just got a knock on the door from community fibre, signed up for 1000/1000, there was also 3000/3000 but i didnt see the need in that since my computer doesnt even have a 2.5gig port.

if anyone here is using the router that comes with it, how is the bufferbloat? i want to know whether to buy a new router or not

I might see if i can upgrade it but need to have a word with the missus if she is happy with the extra cost.

my mikrotick router has a 2.5gb port and some of pc's have 10gbit fibre ports already

Just agreed to move to Box Broadband (based out of Crangleigh) which I understand is part of Communityfibre now. Going for 300/300 for £25 which is less than I will be paying for 150/30 with sky at the end of my contract.

Process has been super smooth. Had three calls from them to go through the package, confrim my address and book in a installation date. Emails really clear and have been able to confirm in advance whether I want to use thei packaged router (Nokia g-2425g) or my own and they will just supply a small modem.

Umm this is strange, i just notice how my public IP says its located in netherlands?

I tried doing some speed tests and it keeps telling me my location is in netherlands and trying to connect to a server in new york lol wtf?

I first notice a issue when i tried to launch sky go on my pc and it said i cant use sky go in this country?

I dont have vpn setup on the pc i tried.

Im only getting around 17mb/s instead of the near 900mb/s.....

Vpn is active somewhere somehow. Give them a call.

Just got a letter today CF will be live in my area within 3 months. Currently debating between the 200mb or 500mb package as prices for those fits my budget, just if I really need the extra speed.

What's the supplied router like? Been meaning to replace my old Asus RT-AC68U for a good while now and the Linksys doesn't look too bad. I don't really need any advanced features, just as long as it's not too locked down. I'll be changing the DNS to point to my Pi-Hole (BT's hubs didn't allow this). Won't be using the Wi-Fi either as I have Unifi APs around the house.

If you upload anything of the sort, the more speed the better.

Note that from the last year to two years observation of CF sales, you might be able to get a good deal for 500 or 1gb connection in around 3-4 months time (Summer Sale).

The supplied router varies by what package you get with CF, so I can only talk about the 1gb package one, that's the Linksys Velop MX4200 (original name, it's just the WiFi 6 Velop here at CF), but I am assuming that all hte software side would be the same or identical. I just had a look for you and on this one, you can direct your dns to another address if you need to, so that's something you can do. The WiFi you can turn on/off. So those should work for you no problem.

Moving this here https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/official-mikrotik-hardware.18959891/page-11#post-36358012 as it maybe a router issue?

i am gunna try the community fibre router later to see if still get slow internet.

whats funny is that if i enable my express vpn client to connect to a uk server, i get speeds of 600-700mb/s lol
Yeah a quick test I'd do is just power off your current router, and do a quick and dirty power cycle with original Linksys one to confirm it works as intended, and if you're fine, it's not something CF can do about as it'll be that existing router instead.

Cheers, will probably stick with the supplied one as long as it allows me to change DNS.

Yeah, that's one good thing I've been waiting for, symmetric speeds. Either packages would be a huge upgrade from the 20mb I'm currently getting (and VM is just too expensive for something faster). But the bigger plus side is the drop in latency thanks to full fibre.

Just checked my BT contract doesn't run out until November so I guess I'll wait for the Black Friday deals.
