It might be because they use a different postcode file to CF.

On their own website, CF identify our flat (we share a street number).

Uswitch only allocate to the street number.

Installed and after a false start where the cable was severed just outside my front wall (by an animal, the engineer assumed) we have a connection. The voucher takes 90 days to come through and I’ll kick up a stink if it doesn’t do so automatically.

Connection tests very well. Hub WiFi strength and distance feels a bit weaker than the Virgin Hub that’s also currently running in my home but I haven’t properly tested them one at a time from same location.

How can I check if I have CGNAT? I'm pretty sure I don't even though I'm on the 1gbps service.

Check ipv4 address here https://whatismyipaddress.com/.

Then tracert the ip, if it's 1 hop then it's not cgnat.

You can also check the wan ip in the router, it should match the address whatismyip shows, if it doesn't, then it's cgnat. Don't know what router you have, but my cf linksys router the wan ipv4 is under troubleshooting then the diagnostics tab.

@Armadillo has the right approach. But there's two things to also remember whilst checking however:

1. More recently obtained 1gb connections are going to be CGNAT, only the connections started quite a few months ago (I forget the exact time frame, but at least 9 months ago lets say) remain (for now) non CGNAT. All 1gb connections since then have been CGNAT.

2. If you have auto connections for your IPv4 and IPv6 on the router, your IPv4 will be CGNAT style. But your contract and connection is still non-CGNAT apparently. You need to disabled IPv6 so that the modem and router calls up the IPv4 connection that is direct and not behind CGNAT.

I'm using the linksys router and it also matches my public ipv4!!

I got the connection in August 2023, I assumed I would have CGNAT but I guess I don't.

Was able to get 2.5gb through EPIC Launcher, doing some Steam updates maxed around 1.2gb, cant complain really :D

SpeedTest shows over 3.1 up and 3.1 down :)

Contract is up, I'm used to dealing with fttc where I can bounce around for better deals, I assume phoning them is where the best deals are? Website says deals are new customers only, so I'm guessing I won't get close to them.

Also CGNAT, while I will ask if I can keep my normal ipv4 address, if I can't, will CGNAT effect multiple people on the same game? I know you can't host a server behind it, but there are multiple people in the household and we often are partied up and playing together on the same server, CGNAT won't cause any issues there will it?

Thanks.

I would imagine calling would be best too. Although, if you managed to grab a deal back when the contract started, "in theory" it should continue at that price + the amount of increase out of contract, so if that's the case, in theory you can keep whatever you have now for £2, £2.50, £3 or whatever the change is out of contract more. No need to mess around with anything else if you want to keep the ipv4 address. Although, I don't believe anyone has really tested this, so you'll be the first.

But definitely call in to check and confirm. And also with regards to CGNAT, it's not a major issue for most games. Only a certain few using P2P connections will be hardest hit, and the only one I'm aware of is Mass Effect Andromeda and only the Multiplayer portion is impacted, and only when hosting the lobby. Joining others was fine. So I imagine it should be the case here for other games too. Unless if you are required to host, it should be fine for all usual content.

The deal I have isn't as good as what you can get now. Was 500/500 for £24ish I think. So adding the two years of the inflation + whatever % they add + the out of contract charge, is not bad, but not great (not the account holder so can't check right now). So if I can get close to the deals online, then can either save some money for what we have or get 1GB for similar price.

I guess I will bite the bullet, phone them (well account holder will and pass to me if need be) and see. Will update thread if I manage to keep ipv4.

How did this go? My contract is up now and it'll be handy to know what to expect when I call them up. Currently I'm not on their Cgnat system and I'd like to stay that way
