How did this go? My contract is up now and it'll be handy to know what to expect when I call them up. Currently I'm not on their Cgnat system and I'd like to stay that way

Haven't done it yet, stuff got in the way last week :(. Plan is to call on Thursday, so I'll update the thread with results then.

Even though their website says my address is covered, I emailed them and they said they are not covering it any more. What a shame :(

Mine will be up soon as well in a month or twos time. But interestingly, my connection was strangely using CGNAT since they did some fixing of a line issue about a year ago. Wonder if that had messed around with it. In any event, will be calling in my case to query on why that's happened as well as asking about prices for a contract continuation. Overall, a new contract shouldn't impact on anything, but will be good to know if mine remains at the £25+2 (£27 out of contract) or what it's ended up as.

I'm assuming you had a 2 year contract at 1gb by the price? I was stuck on cgnat for a bit but a quick chat and they removed me from it without any problems.

Ive just done a Web chat with their technical support and they've said if I renew I'll keep my public ipv4 so it's looking good.

So update time.

Phoned them, got moved to the current 1Gb/1Gb deal for £26. Was paying £35 for 500/500. That was made up of £30 for the 500/500 as 1Gb wasn't on offer when we originally got it + price rises over two years + £4 out of contract. Not exactly the same as the website package as no new router, they said they only send if something is wrong with current. Current one is fine, so I don't care.

CGNAT, took a while because of waiting and the tech person had to keep putting me on hold to go to someone above them, but short version they said the account is flagged to not use CGNAT and I can keep it like that, I don't have to move to cgnat with the upgrade.

Apparently it will take 3-5 days to make the change. I guess it will just go down then pop back up at 1Gb.

Other than that, I'm not the account holder, but CF was fine to let me speak once the account holder had given all the details and said about passing over to me. I know some companies can be funny about that, so just thought I'd add it.

So just a little update, already switched over to 1Gb/1Gb, I didn't notice it go down (and neither did anyone else). I'm not sure if it actually does or it's just quick, but there's no significant downtime if you change speed/package. 3-5 days I guess sales is just being cautious incase it takes longer.

CF were good to their word, still have my dedicated ip, so no cgnat. I know I said they said I can keep it, but what companies say and what actually happens are often different things :p

My TP Link AX20 died today after four plus years, normally I get a lot more out of a router, my older TP Link VR900 is still working, anyway I decided to connect their supplied new Linksys AX5400 router to their modem and it was not working with no internet connection on router end ,modem part was fine( ethernet wired), so I phoned tech support and she helped me get it sorted, I had to do a long hard reset (20 seconds) on the AX5400 router, after trying unplugging and removing all cables etc.... Anyway all working fine now, it's virtually plug and go unless you want to change login password or wifi password etc, the speed is about the same (maybe 1 or 2Mb higher with AX5400). I do hate the interface however seems very basic. I updated the firmware as well. I'll probably upgrade near Christmas to a TP Link BE9300 that has wifi 7.

Tech support was pretty quick and I did not wait long, free 0800 number and the issue sorted pretty quickly, if that had been Virgin Media I would still be waiting on the phone lol...
Btw I have the 1GB package.

:) .

Is there a cheapish router that will give better performance than the stock one? It's not great... still waiting on my £150 Amazon voucher too...

Plenty of decent third party routers that have better Wi-F 7 range etc, have a look a the usual brands via their websites ie TP Link, Netgear, Asus to name a few, most models available have online reviews.

I'll say might be worth getting the latest tech and go Wi-Fi 7, gives you more future proofing and speed etc.. I will be getting the lastest tech in a few months time, I don't like the CF router GUI ,very limited IMHO.

Just setup my new Asus TUF-AX6000 router on my 1Gb CF package, installation was pretty simple, no need for mac address cloning or even CF modem reboot, just make sure you set IPV6 section in Asus WEB GUI to "native" with the rest in that section to " enable" which it does anyway, then I had internet access, ISP is set to "Automatic connection".

Really easy to setup. Speedtest gives me around 947Mb up and down wired so happy with that. Firmware updated as well. Trying out the Adaptive QoS and AI protection, so far no issues.
The ASUS WEB GUI is 100x better then the Linksys router and I can set it reboot once a week (3.00am for my preference) .

I got a good deal on the router for £119.99 new!.... Very happy with it :) .

Did the adaptive QoS slow the speedtest down?. Been searching for a router which will do the full 1GBps and have QoS on but there aren't many.
As for the voucher, I just set a calendar notification of the expected arrival date and then leave it until then to chase. They send it out I've had 3 successful referrals so far.

Speed wise same as before, no issues yet maybe the quad core CPU 2GHz helps, it does have 2.5Gb WAN port and one 2.5Gb Lan port, rest are all 1Gb ports. You'll get the voucher, think mine took eight to ten weeks via email.

Btw you can set priority order for QoS under "customise", have mine set first for Gaming then Video streaming, Web browsing, Downloads, Home work stuff and then the rest after. I did play "No Mans Sky" and it seemed smoother then the CF Linksys router ie lag wise, more responsive turning in space etc, this is using a gaming mouse so you would notice it.

There is a stats section, mine is like two cores at 1 to 4% while browsing, two cores at 0 percent, ram has 182mb free so it's no strain on CPU at all.

:)

Internet went down yesterday evening around 8pm. Assumed it was just my area NW London, but looking at downdetector and twitter it’s more widespread. First major outage I’ve had with them and their customer response has been pretty poor. Status page didn’t update until around 8:30am this morning and their ticketing system wasn’t accepting responses. Generic responses on Twitter, no ETA for a fix, and still down as I’m typing this. Had to happen on a Friday, made me one of 10 people in the office today :/

Anyone else having issues?

None here, E11 area. The only outage I've ever had was for maintenance at 12am when they said they'd do it. Only one or two of those in the 2 years I've been with them.

There are still rough edges with the service which I sort of expected for the speed and price. However it's been worth it for me and a few others.

South London, I did experience an issue with my connection but it was but it was (found this morning to be) the router acting up, not the ONT/Modem or anything else (connection wise), but the Linksys AX4200 router had developed an issue.

It was constantly losing connection to the Internet even though all physical links were fine, and nothing else went out or red lighted. It dropped connections very briefly and would get it back moments later and this would repeat every 15-30s (but the LED on top would never change colour from solid blue indicating a loss of connection). It would also during this time not be able to get online to anywhere unless if it was local (UK or Europe site), with most US sites not being able to connect to (online games would not transmit anything to the servers for example, but could receive data). The time when it was experiencing issues, it was during the rain from last night as well as the storm in the US, so thought it was Internet backbone issues. Until I tried using my mobile to get online for the games and found zero issues. This lead me to examine the router more closely and then eventually perform the shut off for 2 minutes this morning. That resolved it.

All other times for me where the connection went down - bar once (the one where I ended up having CGNAT enabled), were all preinformed ones. And that bar once down state needed to call in to notify them of the issue. During the call, it resolved itself when they sent commands to the switches to check the issue and it kicked the connection back on.

@explicit4u

What exactly have you run into? Have you checked the ONT/Modem for any off LEDs or Red ones? And if so which ones?

Have you tried shutting off and then turning back on your router (after 2 minutes)?
