How’s my luck, I’m thinking that I might have done something wrong wrong trying to fix my PLEX issue when I was unable to go online, now I read about this outage. My CF guest WiFi internet is working fine, just not my personal CF one, which I’m slightly thankful for I guess.

As bad as Virgin were at times, I do have to acknowledge their services was for me at least working 99% of the time over a decade or more of usage.

I’ve only literally started using CF and I’m already experiencing things I’m not used to . Is this outage a really rare occurrence for those who have been using their services for a while that have been also affected?

Most of my devices are online again apart from my iPhone. I changed DNS to 8.8.8.8 and working now.

Their phone lines and the account page are still down for me.

I’ve been with CF a year next week and this is the first outage I have experienced.

I’m on the 3Gb package and no real issues. The odd drop but I think that’s more down to rubbish WiFi coverage in my old house. It’s never bothered me enough to investigate further.

You’re 100% correct on the WiFi issue that the Tenhnicolor router has. I do have an one extender that CF supplied which I haven’t used or setup as yet, as I thought the WiFi would be strong enough to go through the floor directly below and still give me circa 500-600mb up and down, but after doing a speed test when the network came back up, on the 5G I got 128mb download and 68mb upload when I directly below where the router was, then once I was in the same room a meter away I got 680mb down and 702mb up. The 3Gig via Ethernet still working as promised at least for when I need it.

On another note, I’ve finally got my Plex back up and running as normal after being up most of last night trying to figure things out that could be the issue, and in the end it came down to one god damn setting which needed to be enabled on the router….A 0.001 task took me almost an entire Sunday which is meant to be my chill day to figure out. I hate this **** at times , I can laugh now.

Coming up to 4 years this April and this is the 2nd major outage outside of a short blip or two.

Looks to be restored in my area but a few friends are still having issues

I see it's finally up and running here in SE London, been down for almost 4 hours today, glad it's all fixed, first major outage for me since I joined in Jan 2024.

I think since I joined in 2022, this is the second (?) major outage here for me. Otherwise, minor blips only (normally at night).

Regarding the Wifi from hte Technicolor, I believe all units without antennae that you can direct, are often weak at anything "below" it.

I was oblivious to it all had no impact to me but I do use my own DNS servers.

Only recall one other downtime in the last 4 years I’ve had them

Do CF offer compensation for down time to their customers?..I know with Virgin a few years back, I ended up getting a cheque from them automatically.

They really need a service status page. It would help them and customers hugely.

They do have one and it was updated with info about it today, but that doesn't appear to be their standard application of that page normally. Because anything that's not major (those minor blips I talked about) or anything else, does not appear to get up on their status page normally. Not even the last time something major happened. Certainly not from what I've observed, but again, there hasn't been much issues for me to seek it out in the first place. But the few times I did, there wasn't any update there about it. So it can be hit or miss if it wasn't as widespread as the one today.

Just out of interest, if it possible to get an adapter for devices like computers/laptops that allow for the use of WiFi 7? Also, has anyone upgraded their WiFi card in a Macbook to WiFi 7, if that’s possible?

Usually just get a WiFi 7 adapter. For desktops you can usually get a decent one that slots in the PCIe slot. For laptops it'll be mini PCIe or NGFF, depending on the model, but there are some cases where it's soldered on so you can't replace the inbuilt one, but you can go USB. Macbooks I suspect you'll also be limited to USB adapters.
