Community Shield spoiler

I thought the keepers both looked decidedly dodgy. And besides, it was a first team debut for both, so what can be said for one can also be said for the other...

Aah, but I was only talking about Howard :p hehe.

Kirkland and Robinson will be first-choice players this season, so the England keeper IS sorted, and neither of those look dodgy on crosses or long range shots either :)

Cole will be out of the frame once Bridge starts performing for Chelsea. He's much better IMO.

Agreed on that. Robinson for now. Kirkland later if he performs regularly and recovers from his injury.

I can't believe you are actually judging the guy after ONE match in which you have seen him. Have you not seen any of his saves in Man United's tour of America? Or a decent view of the free kick? In which you will see he was at full stretch and it was actually the wall's fault for being poo! :)

If he is so dodgy on long range shots, how is it that he saved that free kick against Barcelona

I don't think you can blame the poor kid for that one error! Probably the first time he's played in a match with a gate over 20k

Sorry but on tour he played in front of gates of 60k + :)

Apart from that, there was also the longe-range effort from Henry in the first half, which although had no power or accuracy, he took forever to get moving to cover his post.

I noticed this but I remember what the commentators were saying. They mentioned he slipped for Henry's shot, and in the second half when he came running out and intercepted the through ball, remember that? The commentators said he had slipped at first there too, so that could just so easily be the boots he is wearing since he would be used to a drier pitch in the US of A right?

I'm not judging him, I'm just amazed that people are getting so carried away with him when from what I saw he had a poor performance.

I thought they played Arsenal today? Oh, thats right, they did, and he looked decidedly dodgy against them!

They did play Arsenal today. Well done :) I'm not getting carried away with his performance, I'm just saying that to blame him alone for the goal and then say he is dodgy on long range shots and crosses is way off. I can think of countless crosses which he did deal with very well today too.

They also played Juventus, Barcelona and a few other teams as well in preseason, where Howard made countless class saves. As you will find if you download clips from links provided by Man United obsessed supporters in the past few days :p

The thing is, this isn't a spoiler about Juventus, Barcelona or any other matches apart from the community shield, so I withold the right to comment on what I saw in that match TYVM.

Hell yeah :p Go Bridgey!!! : D

Sorry, I missed an 'S', I meant Bridges ;)

Can't be seen to be agreeing with you :p

I would still prefer Bridge for England, especially now he'll be getting CL experience.

I would probably drop Cole for england as well, he is usually rubbish for england. As long as he performs like he did for us last season i'll be very happy :) I was very disappointed with him today though, last season he showed a lot more intelligence at times when reading situations, today he made the same mistakes over and over and over......

Howard wasn't that impressive imo, coz he saved a few pens it will made out like he played a screamer :)

Considering our main players weren't match fit i think we did ok today. Playing Man Utd is never easy and even with quite a few non first choice players we did ok. Obviously disappointed we lost but they had to take it to penalties to beat us.

Under those rules then, that Zidane character must be a right crumbler. I saw him miss an 18 yard pass against Thailand today. The guy obviously can't hack the pressure and is a bit dodgy at passing..........

Not at all, I bet he was at the top of his game for the rest of it :)

Howard's all-round game was a bit dodgy today. Long shots, crossing, his distribution, all things that a top keeper needs to be very good at.

Of course you are right about him needing time to settle in, and that was only his first game on British soil, but I'd expected so much more. Maybe its because he'd been talked up so much.

Howard's distribution was good  ONE SHOT beat him in the game, and he's dodgy. Give it another two weeks and I'm sure you will be agreeing with me and the majority, as much as it will hurt you hehe :p

Yes, long shots.

Twice he kicked it into touch, then he started rolling it to his defenders.

It won't hurt me, because I want the guy to be good. I've put him in my FF team. He's just not the player he was made out to be.

Besides, its not like I'm condemning his career. I'm talking about his performance today.

If you are hinting that Howard doesn't shoot from long range..... :p

I was thinking of doing that myself, but I'm not quite so pedantic lol

If a keeper is dodgy on long shots and crossing does it mean he can't shoot or cross? No.

*sigh*

Never argue with an idiot. They only drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

/me leaves thread.

Oh my god, that was a joke aimed at Jazz :p He was nit picking so I just joked to him about it.

Gilly, you were arguing with me, you must already be on my level. Be sure that you are definately not above mine or anybody elses though.

So, Howard can be judged after his first ever game in England, in what is essentially a friendly match, in freakishly hot conditions and in front of the biggest crowd he'll have ever played with.

Yet Kirkland is a world class goalkeeper after playing 15 first team games his whole career, with his only 6 clean sheets including giants such as C Palace, Sheff Utd and Vitesse Arn.
