Competitors - a clarification

I dont, but as the 10% is the magic number at the moment, made sense to use it as we have no other figures to go on.

My point was is that if only 1% purchased elsewhere, it is still money out of Spies pockets and into someone elses.

Right now the PC Games forum has around 15% of those on this forum viewing it. Take away the people that don't give a crap about what happened and will continue to buy from OCuK regardless and you are likely down to around 5%, or even less. So that's aroun 80 people who will 'revolt' against OCuK and won't buy from them. Even if every single one of those spends 1k here every year (Ver unlikely) that's only 80k a year, a very, VERY small fraction of their revenue which will likely be replaced due to a natural increase in people stumbling upon this site anyway.

This could be complete horse**** as it's all estimates but oh well.

I think even 1% is being horrendously optimistic on your part.

Give it a week and you'd probably be able to count the number of people on one hand who were still annoyed and principled enough to not buy from OcUK because of this. They know this is the case too.

That's why nothing is being done, that's why there are no apologies - at the end of the day, you don't matter to OcUK. You're insignificant in business terms. They know this issue won't blow up into anything genuinely damaging to business so why bother putting time and effort into sorting it? (hell just look at the storms they've weathered in the past, they make this little event look absolutely laughable) That's how OcUK have always dealt with things and I suspect always will.

so you’re saying we can’t post games you sell correct?

So what happens when you get tons of threads or posts like

Hey want to upgrade my video card as I just brought so and so game from XYZ at %50 off or whatever price and my rig can’t handle it?

What video card should I get from ocuk shop which will handle so and so Game

Crysis 2 and RIFT being the main two where quite a few posts/thread were made saying the above

Or threads/posts like

Oh I grabbed Crysis2 in the Steam Summer or daily Sale an hour or so ago and my rig is having problems with this and that can you guys help me fix it

So are posts/threads like that not allowed too.?

Loads of I doubt game x from store alpha and I want help.

Why exactly does it matter where it was bought from? If I needed help with something, I would not name where I bought it from, its completely and utterly irrelevant.

I'd obviously prefer they weren't posted, but as I mentioned on post 36 I'd expect that to merely be edited rather than incur any wrath (just like most competitor mentions or an occasional mild sweary gets quietly starred).

I'd agree with "dont'" but not "couldn't". Big investment would be required and making big losses at first, but not impossible, the resources are there if that was the chosen strategy.

Now you're speaking hypothetically, which is fine, but it's irrelevant unless it actually equated to anything.

In its current state, OCUK shouldn't sell PC Games, this would fix the problem.

I don't see why you're afraid of Digital Download services anyway, they're not your direct competitors as people choosing DD are either using Steam or other download service of their choice and you won't ever be competitive in this field unless you offer similar service.

Other retailers are your real competitors but since NONE of your games are priced competitively, I don't see the real reason for stocking any.

really?

isn't ocuks revenue something like 30 million yet game's is 1.8 billion?

I doubt you could ever compete with that kind of clout considering that they get exclusive bonus content from the publishers yet ocuk doesn't so even if you sold at the same price people would buy there.
