apparently the forums help generate 10% of your sales, so that means ~90% of your PC/console game sales, which you cannot possibly argue is a core part of your business, will be completely unaffected by any mention of any deals in this forum.
also, if someone has the ability to find this forum then they are more than capable of findng out where the best deal is for whatever game they are looking for, which will not be OcUK, EVER.
however, advertising deals that OcUK has no hope of competing with, such as the steam sales, will make pretty much all of the forum members buy a game or two they werent planning on getting, or were on the fence about getting, at some point. so far this has happened to me for three games and ive only been a member for 4 months.
more people getting games they werent otherwise going to get will mean more people wanting to upgrade their computer so they can play the game at decent settings. they will then buy lots of products from the people with the best deals, which is almost certainly going to be you guys OcUK.
so, what would you rather:
a) a very angry OcUK community and lower sales on your core business so you can sell a copy of modern warfare 3 and battlefield 3 to John's mum as a present for her son who noticed the advert when john was on the forums
or
b) a happy OcUK community, some more sales on high end core components because people want to max out battlefield 3, but having a couple of copies of battlefield 3 and modern warfare 3 gathering dust on the shelf?
i think i know what i'd prefer
