For those wondering why the machines are named, may I ask do you have more than one in your house and are they networked? Logically, if so, you need to name them. Main-PC, Work-Laptop etc are all fine and all but not very imaginative.
And if anyone is wondering why some machines are named more than just "MainPC" - If you go to LAN's / friends houses, several "MainPC" on the network isn't very descriptive. For those wondering why the machines are named...
I'm not the only one then! Phew! (Agreed though, what's this new-age Eggman none-sense?)
in an audit at work we were specifically advised to NOT use sensible names for servers, for security reasons (i.e. 'Domain controller' 'Exchange email server'), as it would be easier to hack into if you at least know the role of the machine. For those wondering why the machines are named, may I ask do you have more than one in your house and are they networked?
