Computer Names, what do you think?

VM's are named after Sonic characters (Sonic, Eggman, Tails etc)

I'm not the only one then! Phew! (Agreed though, what's this new-age Eggman none-sense? :))

I also named my domain MOBIUS, lol

For those wondering why the machines are named, may I ask do you have more than one in your house and are they networked? Logically, if so, you need to name them. Main-PC, Work-Laptop etc are all fine and all but not very imaginative.

A perfect and almost textbooked reason, thank you I am glad someone has the same sense as me ^_^

For those wondering why the machines are named...
And if anyone is wondering why some machines are named more than just "MainPC" - If you go to LAN's / friends houses, several "MainPC" on the network isn't very descriptive.

Whereas <initials><role> or similar is much easier for all concerned.
Or random names like Monster etc.

Jeeves. If/When voice commands become possible you can put on a posh upper class accent and command Jeeves.

"Jeeves, load GTA as I wish to cap some suckas before supper"

in the original jap release of sonic one, the name they used (as I recall) was pretty much a literal translation of 'egg-man', due to his shape. he became 'Dr Robotnik' for the American release, presumably to identify him as the enemy (communism!)....Robotnik is the slavic word for slave

in an audit at work we were specifically advised to NOT use sensible names for servers, for security reasons (i.e. 'Domain controller' 'Exchange email server'), as it would be easier to hack into if you at least know the role of the machine.

Back on topic,

- my main machine (in sig) is called 'Monolith', because it's huge
- my gaming laptop is called HORSECONDOM, named after the polythene sleeve the power supply came in :p
- my miner is called 'Digger', because I have very little imagination
