Conan Exiles

Really? Where? Only place I've found water was a skin that was left for me near the start and only food I've come across is grubs from plants?

I assume if it's like ark you need to go into water with the waterskin equipped and then drink as and when you need to keep thirst quenched. Also not sure if it has a similar mechanic that the more physical activity you do (sprinting etc) the quicker your water levels drop.

Definitely can't play this in 1440p @ Ultra, only getting 25fps in wooded areas :(

Urgh is the optimisation/performance a pile of **** for this too? What about high/medium settings?

I'd seen some people on reddit saying it was better than ark but they didn't give any indication as to how much better...

Few guys on our discord said it's performing much better than ark but they have Nvidia. Also heard AMD CPU's are noticeably worse than Intel in this.

whos got an AMD CPU these days lol..didn't realise Ryzen was available yet ;)

Just noticed there is a new driver with Conan Exiles support, off to grab it even though the previous ReLive drivers have been proper gash for me and full of bugs.

i reckon a lot of those initial posts were down to people giving it 2 minutes, being placed in the middle of the desert and first checking fps counter showing like 60-100fps lol..then straight to forums to post how amazing performance was. I bet it's a totally different story in the middle of heavily wooded areas for those same people.

I can only go on what I witnessed so far, fine in the desert, but in amongst trees, my fps tanks massively. Early access and 1440p on a mid range card with no crossfire support obviously is exactly what I expected. Will grab the driver and see if its any better but I think I already know the answer to that.

Nope, there are numerous reports of the game running well, even in areas with a high density of trees. It may be a lack of optimisation for AMD GPUs.

jano would u prefer a big arrow on ur screen telling u where to go?

would that make the game better for you?

Err, right. Thanks. Really helpful. Still no food to be found, made it to the water so that issues gone, created a spawn point nearby, died of starvation, respawned, died of starvation instantly, respawned back at the start location again. I had assumed I would have to kill the animals that are around for food, but I'm not getting anything that I can see that can be used to eat other than the insects and grubs from collecting plant fibres. Have killed ugly humanoid things, other people, little turtle things, deer, tried to interact with some sort of egg thing but it's not happening.

Anyway, I don't think this is the game for me, having not played rust, or ark, or any of the other survival games I guess I was expecting something more than this.

Still infinitely better than ark initially where it was sub 30fps everywhere on ultra@1440p on my titan x :P To be fair it was up in the 40's by the time I quit.

Sooo is this better than rust it looks another very similar game?

Funcom did a decent job on age of conan in the end, at the time of playing that (1 year after release) they made a lot of us rage with broken content but looking back now in hind sight, before it went free to play it was actually a really good game with loads of content. So expecting them to do another decent conan game here.

Guess we will just have to wait and see what is what with performance for various setups then...

So far it does seem to be fairing better than ark, at least for nvidia systems anyway.

Yep played conan for 3 years, it had a lot of good stuff going for it but lack of content early on killed it. Tortage and the first 20 levels were some of the best in any MMO. Shame it never really kicked on from there and the grind form 35+ was pretty bad up to 80. They finally fixed it and the bugs (though sieges were still a laggy mess).

The eggs, insects and grubs will do for food until you can build a campfire to cook the meat you get from the turtles etc.
