Confirmed: Windows Blue Will Be Free, to Be Called 8.1

Quick question, thinking of upgrading to windows 8, do you get 8.1 free being a 8 user, or is it best to wait till the release of 8.1?

8 is good right now but best to wait on the reviews for 8.1 and any serious bugs reported. I'll certainly not be rushing to upgrade to 8.1.

Whats the difference between the English and the English-united kingdom ones?
The UK version uses British English in the GUI elements, dialogue boxes, help files etc - the standard "English" version will retain American spellings for these even if you change the language, keyboard and regional settings to UK.

To be honest, I think most of us are probably so used by now to seeing "Favorites," "color" and so on that the correct spellings actually look a bit weird.

I only have one niggling issue with the RTM x64 build and that is with IE11. When you do a Google search, display the linked page from the returned search then you have to hit the back button twice to return to the original search page. If you hit back once a blank page gets displayed another hit takes you back to the search page.

Sometimes MS suprise me, I finished talking to the Tech Chat guy (Michael) around 11am yesterday, before 10am today my replacement Pro landed on my desk, the fit of the screen is spot on on the new device and I plugged it in, configured it to the network and told it to start updating..
Excellent service...

Its now half 1 and its sat there saying Please wait while we install a update (shouldnt that be "an" update?), looks like its locked up :/

Just installed since I had to re-install windows due to muckign up the registry trying to fix my windows updates issues.

So far I'm impressed care not for teh start button but the tweaks i've noticed so far are all an improvement.

Allthough right click on start menu and click shutdown is a superb addition. Microsoft is finally listening to feed back it would seem

Is yours activated?
I've got SA on both of our MS agreements here at work yet my 8 codes dont work with 8.1 which I would have expected them too...

upon normal release in October. Will this just be pushed out as a windows update? Or do you have to go and get it and install it like people are now with the RTM?

Did a clean install of Win8.1 RTM (English UK version) this morning, install was very quick, even added my WMC key after my Win8 Pro key activation which installed the extra WMC stuff, anyway all running sweet,OblyTile and Win+X editor both working fine.

Decor8 latest version also no issues.

Just downloading my Steam and Origin games at the moment, anyway be all done far before the official Windows Store launch of Win8.1 ;) .

Ahhh, does the WMC key work on a fresh 8.1 install, I grabbed a code when it was free waaay back when 8 landed, never used it though as I didnt really have a need for it, but as it was free, why not...

It works if you have already activated WMC previously on Win8 Pro,not sure if its never been activated with regards to using it on Win8.1 Pro.

what are hashes? is it away of knowing the files hasn't been modifyed and repacked in a iso?

I've been handed the official 8.1 RTM and have a legit 8 Pro, any issues with just installing and selecting 'keep all files and settings' and using my key?

Should never have been removed. Logging off is another pain in the backside on 8 (go to 'not-metro' and then click your username then logoff).

I seriously still can't see this being fit for business and none-touch devices. The sooner Microsoft have one operating system for touch devices and one for desktops the better.

I've recently tried it but still find myself wanting to install classic start menu as the first thing.
