Confirmed: Windows Blue Will Be Free, to Be Called 8.1

The downside (and hears hoping it makes you feel beter moogleys!) of using the new UEFI bios's on the graphics cards is that A)- your restricted to using it on the same manufacturers UEFI motherboards and B)- apparantly you can't downgrade the bios.

bit of a bummer really as I was contemplating selling my card last week till I remember I've restricted it to Asus motherboard users only!! :(

It seems the only way I can remove the message is a full re-install with UEFI disabled which is strange as it worked fine in 8.

I think I will re image 8 and skip 8.1 as it seems far to much hassle tbh.

One of the great things about Win 8.1 is driver support. The only thing I needed to install in nvidia graphic drivers, that's it. Versus Windows 7 and seeing all the question marks in Device manager. It really ties up the user experience and makes it almost mac like in efficiency. It just works!

Just tried a clean install and cannot get my killer network to work. It worked fine when upgraded but on a clean install its a no go. There are no drivers that I can install. Everything I try it just says "These drivers are not compatible with this version of windows". I have tried win 8 and win 7 versions with no luck. There are no 8.1 drivers I can find.

Force install (use /f parameter?) Or extract drivers and manual install?

Neither worked. I have found some beta drivers that should work I'm just trying to find a download. I really hate killer stuff had nothing but hassle with it whenever I have had it.

Thought the built-in AV stuff from microsoft was adequate?
Are other peeps running seperate AV programs with their Windows 8 installs?

I decided to stop using the built in AV on windows 8 because it bogs down certain program startups (I click the icon on the start screen, and once it goes back to desktop mode there's another five seconds or more waiting before it decides to start the program which also affects the only online game that is installed), and once I installed the latest version of avast all of those problems went away.

No luck with killer drivers. They all seem to install with the killer manager which win 8.1 will not let install...

Getting bored trying now. Strange that it works fine if you upgrade.

Useless killer and useless Microsoft....

okay which link for iso for 8.1 ?
is there a start button in 8.1 ?

i own 8 pro upgrade do i just add the key then keep install yes ?
do i get 8.1 as update in october if i install then if free as i already own win 8 just not installed thanks.

anyone got a link for iso for win 8 couldnt find it sure id saved it on a usb key grrr.

Just had an email back from MSI saying that the Killer network adapters will not be supported by windows 8.1 and they cannot supply just a driver file as it should be installed with the killer network manager ?

Last MSI product I buy. They are basically saying that all their gaming boards will not work with windows 8.1.... useless...

Found the drivers. Seems MSI have no idea what they are on about as just found the Killer suite with win 8.1 support. Now my network is working.

The drivers are listed as wireless drivers but they install the complete suite including network drivers.

That was a pain.

Hmmm, I'm experiencing similar lag at start-up and using an SSD!

Maybe I'll give it a go without Defender.

Fast with Avast 2014 beta,still no issues :) .

Btw beta 3 is out today http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=135544.0

Beta3 installed fine for me,I like the new Avast 2014 small install package size and less bloated then Avast 8,all they need to do is improve it visually colour wise and its perfect for a free AV.

It is the full final 9600 build but

I have the message as my secureboot is not enabled due to my Zotac GTX 680 not having a secureboot bios.

Zotac have not and apparently are not releasing a secureboot bios for the 4GB 680 so as I installed Win 8 in UEFI mode it seems I'm stuck with the message as 8.1 wants securboot enabled if UEFI is used.

Pile of Poo.

I had the same annoying secureboot message due to my motherboard not supporting it, had to reinstall as a MBR system then it was fine.

I have reinstalled as just normal Raid not UEFI and it's all working fine now. Tbh the MSI fastboot is about the same as UEFI so nothing really lost.

I'm actually quite liking 8.1 and I'm even using the Metro this time.
