Confirmed: Windows Blue Will Be Free, to Be Called 8.1

Yup, just hit "start" (or in Win 8, just hit the hot spot) in whichever monitor you want the MUI screen to open in.

Oh sweet, didn't know that, I always wanted to do this with 8 so it's nice to see it working here :p.

how the hell do you get the UI onto 2 monitor any pics or videos:confused:

Original question was if you can have desktop mode on one screen while another shows the UI, not display UI on both (which sadly doesn't seem possible).

Is it possible to have the desktop on the main monitor and the Modern UI on a secondary monitor?

As this would be rather cool.

Would this work with the small 7-10" USB monitors?
ie have the MUI on the USB and the desktop on the main (or multiple) monitors?

This, and now you can have the Start screen open persistently acting as a dashboard of sorts. I couldn't go back to 8.0 now it would annoy me too much.

I've moved from a iPad 2 which had notifications for e-mails received even when the iPad was locked and not in use.

Does thru surface 2 and windows 8.1 have a notifications feature like iOS ??

I believe they will show on the lock screen, you can set it to show icons, I do not think it will show part of the message like iOS but I maybe wrong

Anyone figured out how to change a WIFI profile? - in both windows 7 and windows 8 we could just 'right-click' and select connection properties - but I can't seem to do this in 8.1!!! Last piece of the puzzle for me!

nah mate - I mean't getting to the WIFI profile settings.

Found out how to do it - we have certificate based wifi at work so one has to go into Network & Sharing centre and manually create a WIFI profile (changing the authentication settings to certificate) before we can connect to it.

thanks anyhoo

Its entirely possible! On one monitor you select the application you want & then on the second monitor you open the start menu & launch another.

If this isn't what you are talking about I am sorry.

I've found some weird behaviour with W8.1 that I would like to ask if anyone knows how to fix? When I hit start or Start-s, type say "Windows Update" and hit enter, instead of giving me the first hit it takes me to a search results page. Anyone know how to fix this behaviour?

Have you checked to see it even managed to find Windows Update in the search?

I have had no end of problems getting settings to appear in search since I updated. Refreshing index made no difference.

Updated to 8.1; now my Samsung TV won't connect to my Network. TV is connected to my PC via Ethernet, and with 8 I used Serviio to stream my stuff to it. Network settings on the TV just say it wont connect. Really frustrating me.

Anyone have issue with Live tiles not working since updating to 8.1?

See image, they is now a little down arrow on them?

It actually means that there is an update for that app waiting to be installed (if you go to the all apps section, the app in question should have 'install' included), but it isn't installing (a white line going across the bottom of the app tile should indicate an installation in progress) and it has nothing to do with avast (I had this happen just after updating to 8.1, but the updates did install themselves).

The only way to stop this from happening is to turn off automatic updates in the store (it will then revert back to announcing available updates through the tile).

I think it's actually intended, if you just hit enter on a free text search it'll go off to the search results page but what you actually want are the quick results displayed beneath where you typed it in (it also appears on the results page as an option).

This is probably a stupid question but its frustrating the life out of me. Say for instance i'm in the facebook app and click on a link which then opens internet explorer and splits the two apps to half the screen each... how do you then close internet explorer so facebook goes back to taking the whole screen?

Just click the split bar and move it over.
