Confirmed: Windows Blue Will Be Free, to Be Called 8.1

Considering that you have essentially pirated Windows 8, I don't think anyone is allowed to help you on this forum.

All I can suggest is buy a legal 8.1 license.

How have I pirated it? He had three Technet keys and gave me one with the ISO  Hes free to do what he wants with his Technet key as long as he doesn't sell them right?

No, TechNet is for his own personal use and then only for test and dev purposes, not full time production/consumer use. At least that used to be the case - I could be wrong though.

Up to you though, any legitimate copy of Windows 8 will get the update via the store in any case.

I just realised it only kept the UK English language pack during the upgrade... so I can see the Chinese filenames just fine in explorer, but opening them up in any text editor it appears as boxes... Doesn't help when my Dad usually sends me files with Chinese in it :p.

I believe if you select custom install you can include them.

Oh yeah, the main reason I came in here was to moan about 8.1 causing me issues with my display drivers. latest betas seem to cause issues at 2d clocks with my 7950s.

Also, twice I ended up with a black display after the splash screen, that could not be resolved by either a system restore or any other method (even safe mode was broken), and both times I had to re-image my boot drive to get my system running again.

Any idea how to stop the start screen syncing the tiles I've created across 2 devices ??

I had my surface 2 start screen set how I want it

Just done a fresh install of 8.1 on to my desktop and during the install clicked the button to sync tiles on home screen.

I've since changed my mind would rather have them separate.

No idea how to stop the syncing though...

Yeah you can took me a while to find it.

Get the charm bar up on the right on the desktop settings > PC Settings at the bottom

You will then get new menu up, then click Skydrive > Sync Settings and its in there

Hope that helps

It is a shame, as Windows 8 is well suited to run on slower (or older) hardware. I was thinking about deploying it around the school here and our wildly varied hardware configurations. I suppose I could still deploy Windows 8.0.

Is it possible to have the desktop on the main monitor and the Modern UI on a secondary monitor?

As this would be rather cool.
