Confused isn't the word!

Spec wise its gonna be a pretty much top end system, there`s nothing wrong with that list.

That ssd is at a crazy low price today only if you didnt notice already.

I ordered it all apart from the SSD this morning! :(

Now going to place a second order with just that, not to sure if I could get in contact with anyone to see if I can have it put onto the first order.

EDIT

Doesn't matter guy's I just placed a second order with the SSD and the CPU Cooler as was going to get it from a company that sounds a lot like Amazon Rain Forest :D

That`s a really neat case, having the psu and drive cages behind the motherboard tray will make for a real clean looking build. I`ve not really looked at cube cases before.

Hope you post a pic when you're done

Thank you Vince, hoping to get it built Friday.

Hopefully goes all okay and of course I'll post the results.

Thanks for all the help people. :D

It's good you are heading down the DIY route as its a great way to learn when building a PC yourself and it does not take long to get your head round it.

Couple of tips for your build:

Don't forget to use the 'stand offs' / spacers when mounting your motherboard, never screw the 'mobo' (motherboard) directly to the backplate. Also don't over tighten screws, PC parts are quite delicate.

CPU heatsinks normally come with thermal paste already applied ready to marry up with the CPU, if you want to go a little more advanced, choose your own paste (silver based paste gives better thermal transfer between the CPU and heatsink) Just don't overuse it and apply too much. YouTube vids will help.

Keep cables tidy inside your case and have a good airflow, one fan intaking air at the front and one exhausting at the back. This is an old skool type method as there is so many variations of case these days with different fan configurations but the principle still remains, cool air sucked in, hot air pushed out.

To reduce vibration and noise, put silicone/rubber washers on screws between fans and the case.

Lastly...R.T.F.M! :p (Google its meaning) This is important throughout the building and when it comes to Bios setup. But if you get stuck, Google, YouTube and the forum are your best bet.

Looking good sir, yes yes when you start building, keep posting in this thread and we can continue to help.

As already said, long as your sensible in the UEFI/BIOS as long as you go slow and do things extremely gently, its kind of hard to break something, just double check everything.

As this is the first time you have ever built your own pc, I think you will find on a slim fresh windows build it will fly so fast I doubt you will even need to overclock it at first!

Hi guys,

Just a quick update on the PC build. ALL DONE! It was pretty difficult and for me a bit of a daunting process. I'd been stairing at the components all week going over it in my head what I was going to do and at 18:00 I start to build.

Case was ready, motherboard was out and on a firm non static place, cpu followed and the placement went pretty well. Was just following videos and had a friend to help me, everything went smoothly just took a while to get everything in the right place.

After a couple of hours we hooked it up to a monitor and went to power on! As you can imagine it didn't go great, turned on and then powered off. After back tracking and trouble shooting we eventually found that it was the RAM causing the issue. One stick hadn't settled correctly.

Problem was solved and it booted up so we then put the other fans on for the case and it was FINALLY up and running. Went into the BIOS and done what needed to be done and then went on to install Windows.

Glad to say it installed and everything went smoothly, the drivers updated and obviously Windows ;) went and installed my internet security and preceded to install steam, origin and of course Chrome.

Checked out temps and CPU was at 20/21 idle and graphics card was the same.

I'll plug it all up again later in the day and get playing on it. Will have pictures of the case and the whole build for you to see tomorrow.

I JUST WANT TO SAY A BIG BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT HELPED ME ON HERE AND EVERYONE WHO COMMENTED AND GAVE ME THE CONFIDENCE TO GO A HEAD AND TRY BUILD IT MYSELF. SO THANK YOU OcUK community!!!

Good news Parkinson, I'm In a similar position myself having just finished my first build and it is a great feeling when you get it complete.
Now time for you to enjoy the fruits of your labour :):)

Hey back NoNameNoNumber,

first of, I just want to say a BIG THANK YOU!

I love how you have listed everything and it's pretty much what I was looking for and is in a way I can understand and take the information in so again, thank you!

I'll take your advise and just read a little more into the options I have and try make a decision from there. I am pretty set on wanting a 980Ti from what I have read already in the benchmarking it wasn't far behind the Titan X and scored very well in 4K resolution as well.

I'm swaying a little more towards the 6700k but I'll do what you suggest and read up on it more to help me make a decision.

My original budget of £1500 can stretch to £2000.

Again and probably not the last time, THANK YOU. I'm sure I'll have more questions to ask in the future! (1 Hour probably)

(EDIT)

I did say an hour but thought 5 minutes was long enough. The question I have is... what is the difference between having 2x8GB RAM over having 4x4GB RAM? Is it personnel preference or does it make a difference when it comes to performance?

8gb is enough for most games but if you are focused on a 980ti build then I would personally recommend x99 which would result in 4x4gb ram as it only supports quad channel ram.

You mentioned 4k gaming, don't expect a single 980TI to run every game on max settings at 4k as it wont but 4k with medium/high graphics is more than achievable and at least you could run 1440p to get that boost with little to no performance loss.

You have been given some very good options here. Glad to see someone taking a good approach to this

EDIT: bit late to the punch lol

what did you go for?

Well done also :)

Thank you! :D No problem, I found out about that RAM last night which caused an issuse but got it sorted in the end.

I went for...

i7 5820k
Gigabyte x99 SLI

I'll have a picture of build in a bit when it's all powered up, I was just that excited and relieved I got it done I forgot to take any pictures of it running! :D

Hey guy's quick question, when I brought the GTX 980Ti it had the bullets or blade bundle and said email download but am yet to receive anything. Do I need to do something to be able to download a choice?

You get a code from Overclockers with a code and link on it, click on the link and input the code and then select your game choice

awesome! :)

Hi I don't suppose you could help me at all? i downloaded corsair link and installed etc and when it loaded everything looked good apart from one thing was weird. It said that one of the Motherboards temperature monitor was at -55C any clue what that could mean?

thank you in advance.

Here you guy's there is three images below that show the fully built PC, I'm happy with the results and for the first every PC I have made it makes over the moon to have it up and running and working a treat! The images aren't that great but I still feel you get a good view of it.

To everyone that lead me to finally making the move and "growing a set" to build a gaming PC that I've been wanting to do for nearly 6 years now! THANK YOU! I hope to be able to game with you and keep in touch through the forums!
