Considering drop in upgrade from 1700X to 5800X3D

Found deal £255, I only game paired with the 3080 for 1440p no brainer really very pleased with performance and cost just dropping it in current system

Am5 would cost £950 ? For decent board/ ram and 7800x3d ? And 3080 would hold it back anyway

next logical upgrade would be GPU but not at current prices:)

My problem is I like new toys and AM5 is calling. I know there is nothing wrong with what I have but shiny shiny.

Plus I’m doing a bit more VM work (Palo Firewalls) and having extra cores of the 7950X3D would be handy.

It's call your name. Whispering sweet nothings into your ear at night.

I know this scenario all too well. You'll cave, it's just a matter of when and by how much.

Won’t be long. Well it will be as long as the mad rush is over

I am looking a MoBo’s though. Any suggestions?

I personally like using Asus boards, anything from the ROG line up and I never deviate from this.

Not cheap though, so depends how deep your pockets are. I'm very happy with the X670E Hero.

Lets see how well this ages, i bet 260 by christmas if not oos.
If they haven’t stopped making them in favour of the 7000X3D they will soon. Prices may drop a little but then as stock becomes scarce prices will likely rise as it’ll still be a cheaper upgrade than going 7000 by the time you add in board, CPU and new RAM.

Yep, couldnt resist, 2700x going to be replaced, joining my 5600x + 5950x.

I just did something a bit similar - replaced my 2600X with a 5700X on my X470-F board.

The 5800X 3D looks an awesome chip, but I just couldn't justify the extra price (£295 vs the £170 I picked up the 5700X for). I was also hoping the lower power draw of the 5700 would let me get away with only using a Noctua NH-U12S. It seems okay at the moment - cool and quiet in the couple of games I've played. I don't miss the loud ramping up of the stock fan on the old 2600X.

First time I've been able to drop a meaningful CPU upgrade into my existing motherboard - and a two-generation upgrade at that (three generations for some people here!). That's samazing and kudos to AMD that it's been possible. Hoping this will keep my PC performing well for another three to four years.

I notice there's been some talk of upgrading chipset drivers, which I haven't done yet. Always wary of that screwing up something that's currently working. How important is it to do going from one CPU to another? Does it affect more than the available power plans?

Some had USB problems (back in the day) / chipset / driver / upgrade to try fix it, but if you are happy....

whats your usecase, is it mainly gaming? in which case its absolutely worth it if you can get it for a decent enough price
