To some extent but without the black box what exactly it was doing in the southern Indian Ocean is a complete mystery.

The following SMS message has been sent to relatives: "Malaysia Airlines deeply regrets that we have to assume beyond any reasonable doubt that MH370 has been lost and that none of those on board survived. As you will hear in the next hour from Malaysia's Prime Minister, we must now accept all evidence suggests the plane went down in the Southern Indian Ocean."

I'm not sure. I think it is possible they are about to. The Australian Prime minister is supposed to be giving a conference shortly.

Yes, but the data puts the last known position of the plane in the vicinity of the items of debris they have seen and are now investigating.

I think it is likely they will confirm it in the next few hours.

and what data would that be ?

Australia put a press release out an hour ago saying mondays search is over and nothing was sighted . now they say its definetly gone down there . more stangeness

So assuming the wreckage is the crash site, how long till they start the recovery and get the flight recorder etc? Is that an easy process?
