'Contact lost' with Malaysia Airlines plane

Anybody want a good laugh? My idiot mate posted this on Facebook and I couldn't help tearing it apart, it's the worst written article I think i've ever seen.

His 3 main points:

#1) If the plane went down in the ocean, it would have broken up on impact and debris would be easily spotted A Boeing 777 does not — and cannot — survive impact with the ocean and remain intact. It simply does not have the structural integrity to survive such an impact, which is a lot like hitting a cement wall at terminal velocity.

Idiot straight away,"debris would have been easily spotted". Easily spotted? Clearly doesn't realise how massive the South Indian Ocean is and how tiny the bits of debris they're looking for are. Also clearly never heard of Cpt. Sully perfectly landing a plane on the Hudson, although open ocean is a bit different to that.

They claim the plane went down in the Indian Ocean without flying very far at all.

Clearly an idiot, no-one is claiming that, the main search area is a good 7 hours flight away from where it lost contact, which funnily enough happens to be the same amount of fuel it had on it. Clearly he has never looked at a globe if he thinks it wasn't very far away.

As for #3, there is strictly speaking no evidence it crashed into the sea, but that doesn't instantly mean it didn't and it's a massive conspiracy theory. The best bet they have is some sort of triangulation of the satellite signal that was pinging away, if the plane hasn't turned up by now it's a fairly safe bet it's in the ocean somewhere.

And all this stuff about taking a plane and weaponizing it, for the amount it cost to steal it in mid air, hide it and weaponise it they might aswell just have bought one!

Thai satellite photos http://www.bangkokpost.com/breakingnews/402047/thai-satellite-spots-possible-wreckage.

25 days into the Air France Brazil crash they'd recovered 50 bodies and 640 items of actual debris. 20 days into this and nothing so far.

Makes the story slightly more interesting, given the 100-200 satellite sighted objects. Good read btw.

Just hope they find any wreckage, to assist in locating the black box, given the speed of the currents.

The search moves and will now focus on an area 1,100km north-east of the previous zone. It's being done because more analysis of data has shown that the plane was going faster and therefore using more fuel. This get more farcical by the day.

I dont see how it is a farce at all, they can only make a 'best guess' of where the plane is likely to be based on the information they have. As new information comes to light and data gets better analysed they can (hopefully) improve their guesses of where the plane could be.

So now they've decided that once again they were looking in the wrong place. Great .

The tides are unpredictable at best in that area, and the area has been hit by cyclone conditions in the past few days. Part of the reason for moving the search is the better conditions in the new area.

I'm sure, given tidal patterns, there are a few areas where much of the wreckage could be, but they'll have most likely scenarios which they have to follow. Given the conditions are likely to be more favourable in another of the feasible areas, they have to concentrate on it today.

So, despite all the debris seen through several different satellites, not one piece has been found by a boat ?

It takes time to process the satellite images, it then takes time for the boats to get on station, and also that neck of the woods is home to some of the fastest sea currents in the world ( 9kph ), and add to that if the sea state is rough, which it has been, your playing a constant game of catch up.
