'Contact lost' with Malaysia Airlines plane

I think the whole aircraft turned around thing looks like it'll turn out to be a red herring. Cant blame the authorities for wanting to investigate. Aircraft wreckage isn't in the expected area in the South China Sea and military radar picked up an unidentified aircraft in the Malacca Straights. Who knows what it was they saw? They could've turned back because of a mechanical failure or been diverted after a hijacking. Far too much speculation but the longer this goes on the more questions it raises and the more odd the whole thing looks.

Absolutely ridiculous. This whole thing is turning into a joke, they're just chasing their own tails. Whoever or whatever wanted to get rid of this aircraft did a good job of it.

Me too.

This could turn into the Madeleine McCann of planes.

Pretty sure he was being sarcastic...and if not how bizarre lol.

If it did deviate from course I'd probably go with potentially shot down. The malaysian authorities are either woefully incompetent or trying to hide something.

I don't understand why China isn't more annoyed. The majority of passangers were Chinese, the destination was Beijing, and they have recently had internal terror issues. They have the assets and money to get more involved. Why aren't they ?

Considering their appaling human rights records, they probably don't care.

But no, I imagine they have offered help but been turned down. I think the Malaysians may well be putting their pride before a fall though.....

I don't see how their human rights record affects their desire to secure their borders and airspace. I was rather suggesting they might 'insist' on helping.

This incident along with AF447 highlight the need for flight data streaming like the 787 dreamliner does to the specialist Boeing Centre.

Was a tongue in cheek comment.

I did not think this was within Chinese borders / air space? So they can insist all they like but if they cross the line, the are tresspassing, so to speak.

As time passes I think their insitence may get stronger. It certainly seems clear the Malaysian authorities are struggling.

Dupid Queschon here....

If the black box were say covered in lead could a signal still get through? Or could the black box have had total failure and perhaps caught fire or exploded and destroyed the planes equipment!
