Control Resonant

That's not spammy.

If you need to do 1,1,1,1 for a combo but actually spam 11111111111111 you get penalised with more enemy aggression. Souls games do this, too. Timing is rewarded.

If you don't do any attacks at all, you'll notice that the enemies attack significantly less.

Your goal is to build falter to do an execution, then use enhanced damage to hit the bigger enemies and do more executions. You mix in abilities and status effects as required based on the enemy. Fire against mold, rocks/kinetic against armoured enemies. Mold against the
hedron enemies
.

You can also use enemy attacks to your advantage. Example: the Hiss that fires a laser is great for wrecking other Hiss. Use your character to aim the laser and then stand behind what you want it to hit.

If you're approaching the game by spamming the scythe and expecting it to be easy, you're going to have a hard time. The scythe works really well with the fist launcher combo finisher. Once the launcher is upgraded it launches multiple enemies and then the scythe comes into its own with multiple enemies and aerial attacks.

I didn't know that. I was just launching in to fights 11111111111111, I didn't know the more you spam the more aggro....

I'll try tonight see if it makes any difference.

I found the combat quite "spammy" and difficult in the prologue ( up until you defeat the Artist ). But once I got a few levels & talents unlocked combat became a breeze. I use the twin daggers as my primary attack ( fast strikes and high crit chance ) with the combo finisher that provides an area effect /sweep attack. Rarely use the secondary attack ability.

Once you increase aberrant power etc you'll become less inclined to "spam" attacks as your damage is more impactful. In the beginning of the game, your attacks are weak - it's like hitting a large monster with a fly swatter. I think this forces players to spam attacks in desperation. Imo, the prologue isn't a good introduction to the combat system ... it's not representative of what the game is like just a few hours later.
Agreed. The game did feel like a chore at the start with the ultra basic combat system. I was half minded to put the game down, but watched the gameplay trailer earlier in this thread a few weeks ago and that made me push through to experience the true combat system.

The secondary attack is great when appropriate. The hammer as a combo finisher is an absolute unit.

Completed this yesterday, which took 30hrs according to steam. I did a number of the side missions but I'm guessing far from all of them. Having seen the credits roll, I had another couple of goes at the final optional boss but it was still pretty tough. I could probably have done it given enough tries, but once I've completed the main story line the game is done for me and I move on. There're very few games where I end up 100% it or grinding optional bosses. From a personal perspective I'd give it an 8/10, from a purely objective perspective I'd probably give it a 9/10 on the basis of any developer that tries something new and different, particularly with an established IP, gets a tick in the box from me.

Next up: Gears of War E-day, which I'm really looking forward to.

So with this game... It's good, it's fun.

However traversing the map can be a bit of a pain in the...

Its quite hard to know which way you have to go to move around.

Also I find the lack of direction in what to do next annoying.

For example I got up to the underpass section but I didn't have one of the needed skills to get to where I was meant to go so I had to look it up online to figure out I had to go somewhere else first to get the needed skill to get across the map.

Would have been nice if the game told me.

Navigation definitely hurt my head at times in a couple of the later areas, though I did also think it was amazingly well designed considering.

I had that skill before hitting the underpass but must have been annoying, there are definitely a few things that could be made clearer.

Just finished the game this afternoon. It's superb ... very creative and a ton of content providing you don't neglect side quests / exploration / reading documents etc. Really hope the game sells well enough for Remedy's sake.

Amazing!

Control took roughly 6 months to crossed 1 million copies back in 2020.

Struggling with the Hedron Parallel.
Summon builds work best against the Hedron, imo. Particularly the moss turrets ... also in the talent tree take the perk to increase how many you can summon . They draw aggro, do some damage, but more importantly they impart "infected" status on enemies which boosts your "burn" damage against them.

Although I still got by with whatever other strategy I used (can't recall). I'd done a fair amount of exploring and side questing by that point, so perhaps I mostly brute forced it with high Abberant level.

Finished the main story at the weekend. I thought it was a great game overall. I think there was a lot more story in control 1 which I preferred but everything else was at least on par.

Still got a few side quests to finish. Not sure I will though unless they add a lot to the story? Any you guys would recommend to finish?

The cat rescue one is quite entertaining.
