Convince me to buy a 360 (ordered and on its way now :)

Ok im making this thread because I need help in more than one way, but this particular help I need is should I buy a x360. im probably not the only person in these forums who's bought something and ended up either not using it or using it very little i mean the shiny thing syndrome(where you have to have the latest toy just because-not that you need more of a reason :D ).

I've currently got a high end PC which i play a lot of BF2 on and a PS2 which mainly gets used for Fifa, i am a sony fanboy by my own admission (psp, ps1+2 etc) but that does'nt mean I wouldnt have bill's box in my house ;). I have the money but im maybe thinking the xbox would'nt drag me away from the pc and PS2 enought to warrent buying one, that and the fact the PS3 is probably 12 months off.

I would be using the 360 on my 2405fpw monitor so which cable will give me the best picture?, as im not buying a new tv for my living room till nearer when the ps 3 comes out. I would be running the sound through into my pc speakers via the 2 phono into 3.5mm jack cable i have.

From reading the stuff about xbox live and some of the games it sounds great and im thinking maybe im missing out a lot by not buying one, so convince me I NEED an xbox 360  .

You're best bet would be to ask MagicPirate, another self-confessed Sony fanboy who bought the Xbox360.

All I'll say is, you do need one. If you love good games, excellent online, superb dashboard and amazing controls then you'd want one.

Why would you be glued to the PS2? It's quite laughable compared to Xbox360, the PS3 shouldn't even be mentioned.

I'm not gonna sit around trying to convince you all night, it's pointless, if you want one, get one, they are cheap enough, many people here have stopped PC gaming fully.

This little box is a powerhouse you wont be dissapointed best graphics ive seen in any game ive played.

Well worth the purchase. :)

he he, ok im not glued to the ps2 I just love playing 2 player fifa(just need to find a friend :p) for some reason im having a dispute with myself on weather to buy the 360 hence the post.

It's a bit strange at the minute with regards to the 360. I would say that you should take a look at the launch titles and see if any really get the juices flowing. The problem with the 360 (and most new consoles) is the lack of games available at launch. This hasn't bothered me as I'm really into my driving games so PGR3 is like heaven. If there are 2 or 3 games that you really would like to play then I'd say you should get it. If not then it might be worth holding back till more games get released.

The other thing about the 360 is the Xbox Live Arcade. I ignored this since launch because I was to busy playing the likes of PGR3, CoD2, PDZ, RR6 etc. However over the last few days I've been playing and downloading some of the games such as Geometry Wars and Mutant Storm. If your in any way into retro gaming, or into games that put gameplay over fancy rendered games then this little beauty is amazing. I lost an entire weekend to these two games alone and personally would buy a 360 console just to play these games, never mind the 'Next Gen' games you can buy.

I would suggest that you wait a while untill the price comes down and some better suited games come along for it,all the EA games like FIFA are a slightly better than the xbox ones.

if you dont have a HDTV you will not see any difference.

He wants one now, not in the Autumn.
Also, I don't understand people criticising the launch lineup:
Call of Duty2, Condemned, Project Gotham Racing 3, Perfect Dark Zero, King Kong, Kameo and Dead or Alive 4 sounds amazingly strong to me. Also, with March and May just around the corner it's getting very exciting.

Ontop of that there's Xbox Live! Arcade and all the downloadable Demo's.

From the not angle the things that worry me are how long is it going to last. People returning a dud isnt a worry just the ones that were ok for a couple of months then die. Also People who have 3 games that work great and then they buy say PGR and it wont load, disc error or keeps crashing. Yet it will be a totally different game on another persons system that causes it too happen.

I will buy one get Fifa and Pgr and then see what happens from there. If it dies I will do a return once if it dies again I will get my money back and never buy another xbox again.

If it works well, I will likely end up buying the ps3 as well and ditching PC gaming as its more expensive than 2 next gen consoles anyway. ;)

Thats not true graphics are awesome on a normal set dont let that put you off purchase just a HDTV is more sharper and clearer picture. Depending on what tv set you got i have a Bush 20" tv video combi and it is fine graphics are amazing and ps2 and normal xbox graphics are no way near. :)

Xbox360 looks phenomenal on a regular TV screen, I have seen it on 3 regular TV's and it does look excellent, even on composite. Anyone who says anything else is wrong.

Giving my opinion like i see you did above

i just dont think the launch titles are nothing to right home about, call of duty is better on the PC, Project Gotham Racing 3 might look nicer but I feel that it lacks spirit that Project Gotham Racing 2 had.

Out of interest why is COD better on the PC? I saw COD in the display booths for a 360 on the samsung panel and it looked very slick. The PC version is really better?

Ok if im getting one it will be now even i know a premium pack for a hundred quid less than one of my gpu is worth the money, on the subject of my monitor its the dell 2405 and i need to know what cable is best for it and will it show 720p or which ever setting it is in proper HDTV(good quality). As for the game titles there are a couple i would be intrested in certainly enought to keep me busy for a while.

Dont make me get my fire extinguisher out :)

I've got CoD2 on 360 (with a sammy 32" HiDef telly) and also on my fairly decent PC and I have to agree the PC version is the better version. Thats not to say it's bad on the 360, graphically it's very close to the PC version. The reason I'd say the PC version is better is because I prefer the mouse/keyboard controls over the joypad and also multiplayer is much better on the PC due to decent player numbers. I think the 360 version is limited to 8 players online which is a bit poor.

As for the cable, I would think you should go for the VGA cable, then you set your 360 to a resolution (1024x768, 1280x768, 1280x1024 etc) that works well with your monitor. Infact this is the cable I use for my Samsung screen and I get a better picture quality than using the component leads and setting the screen to 720P imho.

dont quote me on this but i think PC monitors have been able to show 720p for years now, so i would think your dell should do it no prob, you would prob need a vga va cable, i think

Whilst I agree with PGR3 laucking the soul of PGR2, I honestly feel Call of Duty 2 is more enjoyable on the Xbox360.

Also, if your monitor takes Component, use that rather than VGA, for a start you won't need to cable switch and the colours are much better through component over VGA.

Aye they have. 720p is 1280x720. 17" monitors (both CRT and LCD) have been able to display 1280x1024 since the get-go. The larger the screen, the higher the res from then on.

As for the 2405FPW - you're probably best of using component leads over VGA. Handily the component leads are bundled with the Premium pack.

to OP, look at all the tourneys going on, pgr3 races etc, the console forum guys seem to be getting to know each other better due to the community feel the xbox gives you,

its so much better than a PC IMO, cheap, easy, top end gfx without upgrading all the time, things can only get better aswell

Well by the looks of it, its all been said, Live!, The dashboard, the games (few as they are right now) are all fantastic.

Wow, just got a bit of bad news thats taken the enthusiasm out of this post.

PS3 is miles away. 360 is fantastic
