Cooking with Daveyboy - Live Crab

Great video!

Pathetic.

If you're going to cook a live crab, show some respect for the creature rather than tormenting it. You're acting as if it's your plaything.

If you absolutely have to kill a live creature in order to eat it, make it quick. Pratting around tapping it on a kitchen counter and then dunking it in boiling water so it's agony is prolonged is completely irresponsible.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Because the 3mm crab brain is capable of emotion. No, its capable of reproduction, defence, hunting and nothing else. You can not compare the likes of a crab with a human, or even that of a cat or a dog. Ridiculous.

Plenty of studies have concluded that it is very unlikly a crab or lobster can actually feel pain anyway i.e:http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/02/14/tech/main673989.shtml

Here is a tree in case i offended any hippies:

most recent study i saw on the subject stated that crustaceans could feel, or did react to a 'painful' stimulus, and this was when i was in college (so 2007/2008). i read it in the times or something so i can't link to anything, but tis is what i remember.

either way, i wish people would get it out of their thick ******* head that everybody who is against animal cruelty is a tree huger :rolleyes:

Crabs have two main nerve cords - one top and one bottom. There is a way to dispatch them quicky and it's in an odd location. If you wanted to kill it then to quote Jamie Oliver:
If you prefer to kill the crab first, place it upside down on a chopping board and feel for the bony flap on the underside of it's body. Pull it back, poke a sharpening steel or thick skewer into the hole you see there, and thump the top of it with your hand so it shoots right down into the crab. This crushes the crab's central nervous system, killing it immediately
