Cooking with Jonny69: Baked bean feast

Sounds good. Chilli is a very personal thing and everyone has their own secret recipe. Be good to see it :D

And here it is :)

Sharlaw's Chilli

What you need:

1x Large Onion (or 2 small/medium) chopped
2x Tinned Chopped Tomatoes
1x Kidney Beans (lots of people dont like them but I think they're a must)
1x 500g of Beef Mince

Ground Cumin
Hot Chilli Powder
Cocoa Powder (yes I know but trust me)
Salt Pepper

Cooking is nice and easy.

Brown off the mince in a large frying pan.
Add the chopped onion
Add 2 heaped teaspoons of Cumin
Add 2 heaped teaspoons of Hot Chilli Powder
Add 2 teaspoons of Cocoa Powder

Mix in the spices adding some salt/pepper to season.

Add the tinned tomatoes and kidney beans.

And leave to simmer. You may need to add extra water depending how long you leave it. The longer the better, as it makes a loveley thick sauce. This is a wonder with a slow cooker.

Once it's had some time to cook I tend to play around with the spices for flavour.

Cook up some rice, tortillas go great or nacho's and enjoy. :)

Makes plenty and can keep in the fridge or freezer, although never lasts that long in my house.

That's the important bit

Next time you make it you'll have to do a Cooking with Sharlaw thread.

Yeah I'll get pics next time I make some which hopefully won't be too long :)

Oh it also makes great chilli burgers. After a bbq we had a load of left over burgers so I made up a batch of chilli, slammed some in a bun with a burger, and went down a storm.

Well. That was a very "meh" recipe and cooking thread.

Until you mentioned cracking the eggs and baking it! What a simple way to make a decent dish into an outstanding one! Breakfast Lasagne!

Seriously I have a culinary hard-on right now. I'm making this tonight.

I love you.

I need to do a cooking with thread again soon, there have been a distinct lack of them recently.
I made a nice chicken dhansak the other day, but neglected to take any pictures - next time I do it I'll make a thread.

I'm sorry but this looks like too much effort. ;)

Instead of cooking real sausages use frankfurters whicn only need to be heated!

Reminds me of those cans of all day breakfast! - Which do taste rank, this looks not bad though, have a michelin star!

I've had the camera out but not got around to posting any of them up. I need to check what I've already done because there's about 25 of mine here on OcUK but new photos hosted on my website with no thread yet.

After seeing this thread resurrected, I decided to buy a tin of cooked new potatoes and try this out in the cming week. I know those spuds aren't the best, but I didn't want to mess about boiling and cooling the spuds myself, and anyway I only have 'Anya' potatoes in at the moment.

I tried this on Saturday and I managed to ruin it. First mistake was undercooking the onions, and then my second was using Quorn sausages which really does not work in this recipe :(

I make a similar (but lazier) meal..

Required..

1x Heinz Baked Beans with Pork Sausages (the juice is far nicer in this than normal Heinz beans)
Grated extra mature chedder
Marmite
2x slices of thick white bread

Boil the beans on a medium heat for longer than you normally would, to get the juice nice and thick (also softens the beans)

Whilst this is happening, grate your cheese, and toast the bread

Once the toaster has popped, butter it, spread marmite reasonably thickly, add grated cheese, then put the beans & sausages on top

accompany with a nice cup of tea

This is exactly how i do mine, but i leave out the marmite and add a boiled egg with brown sauce on top and an extra slice of toast.

Beans on toast & 6 cans of beer = a very smelly bed and a miffed missis :D
