Cooteastrophe

So instead of taking responsibility for his xenophobia and drug abuse, he's used the Kevin Spacey/Phillip Schofield defence, then sold his story to the most deplorable football newspaper, The Sun.

Disgraceful.
That is another way of looking at it! Regardless, I Struggle with someone losing their entire career over something like this. I mean yes it's a high profile job, surely, there is some compromise between losing a career and carrying as normal.

The problem with "something like this" is that it casts doubt over his impartiality and judgment in a career that demands the perception of the highest impartiality and judgment. Should Liverpool have to deal with him reffing their or any of their rivals matches? Should the Premier League as a whole have to suffer the loss of perception of sporting integrity?

Than there's the xenophobia and of course the drug use in a sport that has president for four year bans for similar. Whilst you might feel sorry for the man, you shouldn't feel sorry for the loss of his career. The consequences are all on him. That's the normal.

I assume by 'something like this' @Jimbeam3678 you're only talking about the Klopp/Liverpool comments and not the fact that he was coked out of his head while away on duty during a WC, texting friends about bets on booking's he's just made and all the other stuff that came out?

His position was untenable as soon as the Klopp comments came out but everything else that followed was far more serious and there was never any chance he could keep his job. Given the texts re possible spot fixing offences, he could be in far more trouble than just losing his job.

As for why he's given this interview. Whilst it could simply be for the money, given the way this story developed, I suspect they probably had more stuff on him and he agreed to the interview to prevent the release of new stories.

What I meant by 'something like this' is when a person has quite clearly behaved inappropriately in whatever industry and ends up losing their job and career over it. Seems completely over the top to me, which is why I wondered if he could ref overseas.

I agree his position within the Premier League is untenable, but that shouldn't mean the end of his career.

Which is why I asked the question as to whether you were simply looking at his comments in the first video, as they could be classed as just inappropriate. However what's come out after is far more than inappropriate and I'm not sure how he could possibly ref again. He's video'd getting coked out of his head in between matches at the WC and sending texts to friends suggesting he's been involved in spot fixing.

Well I guess after his "coming out" the Saudi league is no longer an option either.....
