Cordless Power Tools!?

I doubt you'll notice the difference between most/any of them.
Probably, but still should try to get best value for money vs spec. Its the principle. Manufacturers try to down-spec and offer confusing bundle deals to make it difficult to compare products - as consumers we have to be savvy against that.

796 is fine for most DIY use. It’s a nice weight and compact.

I have one and a 996 which is a monster tbh. And the upgraded hammer action might be worth it if you drill a lot of hard brick?

I would have gone for the 796 if I could buy it in a store, but its only available online it seems (at normal prices anyway). Ive just ordered the 709 with 2x2AH batteries, case and charger for £100 from Toolstation, which is 5 minutes walk away from my house, off to collect it now.

As ive only spent £100 I can now consider getting an SDS drill to go with it for masonry work.

Pay attention to when your local independent tool store is having manufacturer demonstrations days. They don't really advertise them well other than to regulars in my experience, but you can get very good deals. I bought a DeWalt drill and driver combo for substantially less than it was available through the usual Screwfix/Axminster/Wickes route.

I'm getting pretty desperate for a drill now chaps after needing to do some work in my kitchen tonight and not being able to get some screws out by hand as they've been driven in hard.

Which is the best deal out of these:

Or a bundle with impact driver eg:

I just need to know which one of those is best value for money spec for price.

Go for the kit with the impact drill, you won't regret it and will probably end up using it more that the other drill.

Na too late, I bought the 709 from Toolstation. The 778 that comes with the impact driver bundle is a lower model without a metal chuck so I discounted it.

At £100 with 2x2Ah batteries, I can always buy a bare impact driver to go with it if I need one, or a bare SDS drill but those seem quite pricey.

Been using the Lidl Parkside 20v tools for redoing the house and garden for the last few years. So far used:

Drill
SDS hammer drill
Orbital sander
1/4" impact driver
1/2" impact driver
Vibro tool
Angle grinder
Soldering iron

Also used a few of their corded tools as well. All have been perfectly adequate for the jobs we've put them up to.

I keep forgetting about this thread after the powers that be felt the need to move it :p

Anyway, thanks for all the responses everyone :)

I ended up going for the DeWalt series and picked up a £200 multi-pack of drill and impact driver from Screwfix yesterday used the drill for the first time pretty much immediately and it's a beast!

My old drill was an ancient (~12 year old) 24v nicad system so the batteries were basically never fully charged anymore and one was dead entirely and compared to that thing it made stupidly light work of drilling a hole into a brick wall, up there with my corded SDS drill really. Got some more stuff to drill today but no doubt it'll breeze through it :D

Aye as you say, any lithium ion tool from a decent brand like dewalt + some good drill bits (i recommend bosch multi material bits) will chew through most requirements for DIY. I think for DIY comparing tabulated values like @danlightbulb has is unnecessary, I know I've rarely needed more than my makita DHP482Z - so much so that I actually have 2 of them as only 40 quid and have a lot of screwing/drilling to do in a home renovation and saves swapping.

My 15 year old Ryobi cordless drill/driver finally bit the dust last week. I was already looking at getting another 3rd party battery for it, but the gearbox has given up the ghost and now sounds like a cement mixed full of hammers.

Looked at Erbauer, Einhell and Ryobi on line. Reviews of their 18V cordless ranged from crap to meh.

Went into Leroy Merlin and they had half an isle of DeWalt tools on special offers.

DeWalt DCD795 18V XR brushless with 2Ah and 4Ah batteries, charger, hardcase and DeWalt 100 piece drill/driver bit set for £174.

All my pondering and comparing ended about 3 seconds after seeing that offer and I was at the till with one under my arm a couple of minutes later.

I've been told we need a cordless drill. I know nothing about them.. Anything wrong with this one, or should I be looking at something else? Thanks

No, you’ll have no complaints with one of those. I take it you have Makita batteries already?
