Corsa Advice

My mate bought a Corsa B a year and a half ago R reg I think which would make it 11 years old now. He paid £450

We have driven it all over, several trips to Manchester, Wakestock, V festival. And the only thing that has gone wrong is that it got a flat tire on the way back from Wakestock. Which you can hardly call a reliability problem.

The thing is now that he is going to Uni he is looking to sell it again and will probably get £450 for it, so he has had a year and a half of very cheep motoring. I don't see why people slate them so much it does a job.

I'm not defending the corsa, but:

The interior door handles flexed when you pulled them.
So ? As long as it doesn't break who cares ? It's only a door handle.
I was genuinely concerned I might snap the indicator stalk off when I used, THAT sort of absolutely dire.
But you didn't, can't say I've heard people snapping their indicator stalk in a corsa, what's the problem ?
You don't need amazing soft touch plastics and German build in a small car but you do need it to feel at least slightly durable, the Corsa has the durabity of a £3 keyboard from a computer fair and it makes using any of the controls a horrible experience.
Again, what is wrong with a 3 quid keyboard compared to an expensive one, a 3 quid media keyboard is just as functional as an expensive one, I've used a cheap media keyboard I got for 2 € on a pc fair for years before I bought the G11, it's not a world of difference... Both do the job, the cheap one is not a horrible experience it simply doesn't look flash and is made to function.

If it's only a tool for going from A to B, why does it need to feel durable, it needs to be durable, how it feels is not important.
In the same way McDonalds cures hunger. Poorly.
Poorly? It always fills me nicely and tastes lovely.

I've just been informed by JanesyB that its not actually that great :)

Didnt spot the rust bubble, 6x9s or aftermarket exhaust

All of which can be fixed for pennies :)

The exhaust might not be too loud, the 6x9's can be taken out and the rust will be easily sorted :)

I'd have it if I had the money :D

He said it's overpriced too, although thats probably ebcause there arent many about. Am relaying this for him as he's banned :)

Oh no, he isnt going to 'chav it up' is he ?

What is it with people not reading threads today?

If he really wants a small car, I'd look at a BMW compact.
RWD handling, far better build quality than a Corsa (I know which one I'd rather "Max Power" into a ditch!) and the girlz will see the BMW badge little else.

OMGZ RWD DEATH NOE!11!one2!! :D

My only experience of a Corsa was when learning to drive, and anything I thought about it then's pretty irrelevant as it was the first car I drove, and it was too long ago to remember anyway :(

Seems like the bumpers have faided horribly too. They've done the same on my Clio and it's almost impossible to get them back to black :(

Edit: Woo 5k posts :D

How long does it last though?

In my experience, its a pretty good fix, a few coats and it soaks in nicely :)

Have tried "Back to Black" before but it only seems to look black when it's wet - so I'm 99% confident it's just water in a can (as that would have the same effect!)

I can understand people saying the interior uses cheap plastics (as do all Vauxhalls that I have been in!) but the door handles don't feel like they are going to break (maybe Fox is actually really strong!).

Would I buy a Corsa - hell no. They have no steering feel, have no power, the gearbox doesn't feel very good, the driving position doesn't suit me etc but compared to a similar aged Clio (this literally did snap the door handle!!) it is miles better. I haven't been in a Fiesta but I can't imagine it being miles better.

If someone likes the Corsa then it will get them from a-b without too many issues and in half decent comfort at a half decent cost.

Aye, I've tried allsorts of stuff I've found laying around in my garage, most of it works for about a week and it looks grey again.

I'll give the shoe polish method a go when it's dry :)

Thanks.

Better than a Rover 25? Having driven both, you have to be joking. The main issue I had with the Corsa was the clutch/gearbox side of things, couldn't find the bite easily at all, and also irritatingly hard to tell when in gear due to the appaling feedback.

Aside from that, not bad at all, but I would NEVER own one.

The Corsa was a 1.2 and the 25 was a 1.8 admittedly, but acceleration aside it was still worse IMO, the only thing going for the Vauxhall would be reliability (questionable, as the 25 is a solid car anyway).

I'm not a fanboy by any means - I would probably never own a 25 either. Seriously, try and get the sod into a Fiesta over a Corsa, much better car, just not the 1.8D I had.

corsas are not that bad. I have driven one and while it was crap it was perfectly useable. At this kind of end of the market just go for the one you think looks the nicest....

It isn't logical but at this price point for a first car does it really matter about the "feel" etc, just buy what you want. If you go of other peoples oppinions and buy technically the "best" car it might not be the one you want and the small technical improvements won't be enough to override the feeling you have that you didn't get what you originally wanted.

I am stubborn like that. I wanted a Astra because they look nice, for the same price I could have had a Megan or Focus but I liked the Astra.

4 years later it is still going perfectly, not even changed the brake pads, just new tyres.
