Hi YellowBeard,
quite possibly the best man to ask at the moment!
I've got a slight issue, firstly I thought I had a duff H50 pump, but that turns out to now not be the case(once I've explained this, you might agree, I don't know). I'm a techy myself, but this has completely stumped me.
The H50 was installed, which I had no issues with what so ever, the diagrams and video helped slightly in a couple of areas, but in general a doddle.
After everything had been hooked up (minus hdd/dvd-r) I booted it up, entered the bios, changed a couple of things, rebooted, let it sit for 10minutes just to make sure temps were ok, everything fine! nothing to report on.
Now at this point I thought fine, all working, powered off and continued to connect a s-ata modular cable in to my Corsair HX650w Modular psu(in the second modular port away from the fixed 24pin, you will see why I've stated this further on), and hook up my hdd and dvd-r.
Upon then powering up the machine and entering the BIOS to do some more tinkering, I realised suddenly the pump was showing no RPM and the temps were gaining a degree per second, up until about 75c where I felt better to power off.
Thought instantly WTF? as this wasn't the case on booting up in the first instance, now it would seem that what I've managed to discover is that when anything is plugged in to this second port, via the cable, no matter what cable I use, or what device is plugged in, the pump doesn't work.. If I plug the same cable in to another port on the PSU(for example, the first one away from the 24pin, which is where I currently have it plugged in to and have no issues) the pump works.
When plugging in to the second port, the device shows up in the BIOS but the pump doesn't work, everything else powers up perfectly..
I am currently very confused as to why? even if the port on the PSU was playing up, the pump should effectivly be the last thing to have an issue and not power, as this isn't controlled in anyway through that particular port on the PSU? And more so because it works fine if the same appliances are used on a different modular port...
I don't know if I've now confused you as much as I am by the situation, anyways until I figure it out I'm using another port, and the PC is functioning as it should.
Appologies for the lengthy post, I'm just unsure of whether it was best in the H50 thread, as it relates to to it, or in the mobo thread because that is what the pump is getting power from, or the psu thread because that is was solely powers everything..
Cheers
EDIT: Booted up the machine this morning and upon checking the BIOS the pump once again hadn't powered up, after a reboot and that was all that had changed it then powered up, have I a dodgy intermitent pump??
