Corsair H50 Water Cooling Kit

See pics above, right above my current cpu heatsink/fan is the power supply. The black card at the bottom is the soundcard. So no room for any other exhaust fans

Ive shortlisted to these, all around £60

Corsair H50 - about £60. £40ish second hand
Thermalright Venomous X with thermalright TR-FDB fan - £47 + fan (£??)
Noctua NH-14D (about £60)

Im edging towards the H50 still, due to installation and size of fan coolers. i.e the Noctua as seen here!

I replaced my H50.1 with a venomousX and seen much better results on my 4.0Ghz i7 D0, its less than 1oC behind the DH-14 and less than half the size.

It is not very big if im honest, i was infact expecting it to be much bigger.

What temps were you getting with the VenomousX compaired to the H50?
Was it easy enough to install the VenomousX?
What fan are you using on it? (or does it come with its own)
If its got its own fan is it noisy?

I think if the temps are only -5 over the H50, ill still go with the H50, just for installation purposes and space

edit - airflow is also pretty bad in my case. Its quite crammed in there with no intake fans. Might have to get an intake on the front and move the IDE hard drive i have sitting in the floppy drive bay

At least 10oC difference at load, i am only using one xigmatek fan aswell and on the H50 using 2 of them. Very easy to install the VX, infact easier than the H50 and a much better mounting mech.

If you have no airflow in your case then the H50 is a very bad idea as you need airflow to cool mosfets and other components on your motherboard. Thats where an air cooler can do both :D

Thanks for that, looks like it might be a VenomousX then. However it doesnt look much bigger than the scythe im currently using. I take it the design must be a lot better

Anyone have any tips on how to remove the backplate easily? Mine is stuck down with the stickies and won't come off!

i have put a gfx card in the freezer before, this has the effect of solidifying the tacky glue. usually it will then just snap off really cleanly under approximately no force at all.

if u do this, make sure its warm and dry before putting it back in and turning it on to avoid any funny electricity business frying something.

The backplate on what, your motherboard? I thought there are just 4 holes that you screw this thing to. Or do you have to take something off your motherboard first?

I found the glue on the soft sticky things seems strong but isn't so. Just pry the plate up with a flat (and preferably blunt) plate/screwdriver, being careful not to dig too hard into the motherboard. There should be enough space between the plate and the mobo to get a flathead screwdriver in there.

No, but there's a plastic backplate that comes with the H50, you attach it to the back using included sticky pads. Then you screw the cooler itself into the backplate.

Whats the idea of the sticky pads? just to go under the plastic backplate, so directly onto the motherboard?

Ive got one second hand so they wont be that sticky!?

Ok just installed the kit

OVERCLOCKED* Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz @ 4.00GHz / Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Motherboard / Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz DDR3 Bundle / Corsair H50-1 High-Performance CPU Watercooler

P180 case, I've used 2 Apache Blacks push/pull exhausting out the case and replaced the top fan and intake fan with apache blacks also. Very quiet!

However, the cpu is running at the stock 2.66Ghz????!?!?! What have I paid for exactly??!?!

Will call them up monday for a moan!

What is your question?

I think the bundles come with a profile stored in the BIOS.

He thinks he paid for a 4ghz overclock, and also thinks he has a stock system. Wouldn't like to guess if he's right on either count, but it's definitely not corsair related so he's basically just spamming this thread.
