Could this be the steal of the century...... ?

Address listed in the auction is a less than stellar place in West Brom (B70 9TJ), been through there a few times. No local pick up, means it's a fake address or the person doesn't want their face being seen as they are handling fraudulently acquired goods, or possibly even stolen. You only need to look at what they have sold, and it's all fast move electronics, tools, phones etc. These sorts of accounts are all over eBay, buying products with stolen credit cards etc. then selling them on eBay, you'll actually get what you bought, but it won't be from the the most legitimate of sources.

Enjoy your new CPU. :)

Thanks Inspector Clouseau. Hard to tell if you're having a pop or trying to take some moral high ground.

Afraid we don't all have your local knowledge :)

Neither, so no need to take offence. Merely pointing out, that it's a very easy way for people to make cash these days, the modern day of selling in the dark and dingy corner of the local pub of modern times if you will.

It's hardly your fault, as far as you know what you are buying is 100% legitimate and it, for intents and purposes it could be. As I said before, enjoy your new CPU, which is exactly what I meant. :)

Apologies if my reply came across a bit terse.

Erm, nearly no one puts local pickup on ebay. You have any idea how much of a pain that is? Also easy to get scammed if you are the seller.

It s hlarious that this thread even exists. Ebay isn't full of scammers and the sale price here isn't unusual.

Hi muon - have a look at post 7...

Erm, nearly no one puts local pickup on ebay. You have any idea how much of a pain that is? Also easy to get scammed if you are the seller.

I've been buying and selling on eBay for 22+ years, and in all that time I think I have been refused local collection twice, or maybe three times from sellers who were individuals or small businesses. If I am buying something in the local vicinity, and I can avoid delay, in getting the item, or save cash on P&P then I will always ask about local collection. This seller specifically states in actual words, no local pickup, yet the address is a house on a residential street, so like you maybe they are completely paranoid about being ripped off (how is this possible, unless you commit a criminal offence at the door), or they are lying about the actual location of the item/who is selling it. The vast majority of eBay is normal everyday people and businesses, but if you think there are no cons/stolen goods/fraud on then then you are deluded.

Local pickup is fine if the buyer pays cash. However, if they pay by PayPal you have no proof that you handed over the goods and so the buyer can claw back the payment later. Seller protection only applies if you use tracked shipping. The trouble is eBay forces you to allow PayPal in the listing.

Some people don't have the correct biokogical clock ;) That's why they prefer to only wait for a fixed time collection of their familiar couriers.

You can still get seller's protection if you ask the buyer to send you a private message via ebay acknowledging that he has collected the item in person when he collects it. This is suggested by ebay's customer service.

The area that was listed as the address has a lot of Polish and Eastern European migrants in. The High St there now has 20+ Polski Sleps.

Just in case the name of the seller is Polish etc.my last 3 good Ebay sales/purchases were from Eastern Europeans, though
the last scam attempted on me was from a Polish person.

You should be OK, with Ebay's buyer protection and if authentic it may come from a legit source as a few of my Eastern European friends get their stuff from auctions then put them on Ebay.

What are you trying to say here?

What are you trying to say here?

I believe he’s saying that:

#1 The geographic location that the item is claiming to come from is densely populated by a Eastern European demographic.

#2 that whilst several of his eBay interactions have involved said Eastern European people and most of them going well, there was an incident where a Polish person attempted to scam him.

#3 ofc letting him know he should be okay even if the seller does attempt something.

OK, but I'd like to hear what the poster is trying to say rather than someone else's interpretation.

However, based on your interpretation I would ask; isn't speculating about someones ethnic background because of where they live and then further speculating on their trustworthyness (or otherwise) because of their assumed ethnic background racist?

Would you feel the same about it if the phrase 'Eastern European' was replaced with the word 'black'? Or what if it said 'Oh he lives in that part of town where everyone is white British'. What has someone's (assumed) ethnicity got to do with whether an ebay transaction is safe or not? Ethnicity and honesty are not linked (neither positively or negatively), so why would it be mentioned?

Lots of assumptions here. If you get bitten once by a big hairy dog wouldn't it be prudent to be wary of big hairy dogs next time you interact with one? I don't think that's being doggist, just a basic, sensible approach to life ;)

Edit: Typos

Did it arrive mate?

Sorry for the late post, it's been a long day, just got back to the hotel.

So what's the old saying... If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and goes quack, it's probably a duck.

Initial impressions, it looks like a duck...

Let's see if it walks like a duck and goes quack

I've also ordered a Samsung 1TB 970 EVO M.2 from OverClockers which is due to arrive tomorrow. It's frustrating as I won't be able to start ripping systems apart until Thursday evening at the earliest. I'll take my existing Samsung 950 512GB M.2 and make that my scratch disk for photo/video work.

Here's the initial pics...

If it's a ringer, it's a good one....

Plan is to ( assuming it goes quack ) get it overclocked and stable, look at the temps and then possible delid if it's bad, decent paste, and see how that affects the temps. incremental steps....
