Could you do this.

Dude 40 units a week is roughly 3 pints of normal strength beer a day. Which aint really a great deal when moderate consumption is classed as 3-4 units a day for a guy

Yeah but 4 units a day = 28 units a week, so 40 is quite a lot over that but as i said it is only some weeks not most weeks.

I could quite happily go the rest of my life without drinking without affecting it adversely. If you cant honestly say this to yourself - do you have a possible issue with drink?

Good question, i personally dont think i have, as i am going to cut down my drinking and monitor it.

In answer to the OP, if I had problems and my GP said, along the lines of "stop drinking otherwise you will die", the response is obvious. I will.

Lol i agree but as that isnt the case i think cutting down is enough.

I'm very aware of how much I drink because my mother is an alcoholic.

Although I wouldn't say I drink much, if I ever have a period of "regular" drinking I will go T-Total for a month or so just to prove to myself I've not become addicted without noticing. And by regular, I mean each weekend for 4-6 weeks - unless something is going on, I generally only drink when I don't have work the next day

Also if I ever say or think to myself that I need a drink, I won't have one - wanting is one thing, needing is an area I'd rather not go

If you can't give up when the doctor asks you to, not just cut down, then it sounds like you have a dependency on alcohol, i.e., alcoholism.

I wouldn't like to do it, but I would be able to without question.

See he never said you must give up now, otherwise i would, he said

"i would cut down your drink, but i would if it were me give up for a few months"

I could easily give up. In fact I rarely drink now anyway, only having a beer if I'm out in town of a weekend.

I could do it easily. I quite frequently drive if I'm going out anyway, so not drinking would have no effect on my life at all.

I've just cut down on my drinking considerably

I'm still drinking, just not getting 'too' drunk anymore, as I didn't like what I became when I had too much. I know where that barrier lies now and I don't break it.

If I had to totally give it up I reckon I could, might make nights out a little less fun though, some of the clubs around here you need to be drunk to be able to stay there :p

Easy Peasy !

Very rarely drink these days and can quite happily go down the pub and not touch a drop

About once every 3/4 months I'll get plastered but that tends to be more at house parties etc because I feel more comfortable there than getting plastered down the pub :)

I could, but the fact that I was consciously not drinking would probably make me obsess about it and find it hard

I dont generally drink much anyway, often with a couple of weeks between drinks.

I gave up for 2 years (about 6 years ago) really easily.

I only drink socially now and even then I don't go OTT. I still enjoy a good few glasses of wine in the evening from time to time. :)

Everything in moderation.
