Countdown to competition...

Ah, that does make sense :) My brain isn't firing on all cylinders today.

Not to cross-post/spam but would you mind looking in the Gym Rats thread? Just for some tips about an injury a friend has :)

No worries (on both counts)! :)

I've tried specific diet plans, but they're far too much effort for a person like me (who both enjoys food, and has a family to keep up with... so I don't want to make specific meal requests if somebody else is cooking... :D).

One of the reasons I love the Olympic lifting movements is because they are impossible without the requisite mobility, and - as such - I've been able to minimise any mobility-associated problems as a result.

Than, and a very good physio at work. :D

I'm the same about diet plans. I can eat within a kcal limit/whatever (well, mostly) but I like to like my food :) No family to restrict me probably means I'm more likely to eat unhealthy food than I would be otherwise though :p

Olympic lifting does seem to be pretty interesting. I quite like that you can do a lot of it without a squat rack too (I think?).

Pretty much, actually - in fact, before I bought squat stands, it would be...

- CLEAN -> front squat or
- CLEAN -> OHP

Gets harder as the weights go up, mind... not sure I could safely clean 120kg. :D

Today was going to be interesting...

SCARECROW CLEAN (5s) BAR-40 Exercise is the clean equivalent of the snatch balance... but with more *derp*
HANG POWER CLEAN (5s) 60-80
FULL CLEAN (3s) 80-90-90-90 I forget how tiring these actually are... :o
CLEAN PULLS (5s) 130-130-140
LAT RAISE ss/w OH BARBELL EXT. (12s) Three sets.

And then 10.6 miles cycling (will top up with 10.6 back out this evening).

Got smoked at a junction by an old lady on a wheel-barrow bike (those old-school bikes with the wheel-barrow style handles) who was pedalling furiously. Naturally, my curiosity and competitive spirit was aroused, so caught up and realised she was no longer pedalling... not only that, she was defying physics by not slowing down on a couple of slopes...

So that would be what an electric bike looks like and does... :D

Raaaargh! Stats back from my latest commute: average 18mph, with moving average at between 20-23mph over 10.4 miles.

That is what weightlifting does.

Don't ask me to do it again, however... And squats tomorrow... :(

My car was in the garage this week so I cycled to go and pick it up today. It was only like 3 miles but I was struggling. Probably averaged about 10-11mph, and my word the leg burn...

Nice lifting dude

Squatting yesterday... Slow descents are absolute murder on my legs! :D

BACK SQUAT (3s) 132.5-132.5-132.5-132.5-132.5 Last set was probably pointless as form was different (more back...) but...
DEFICIT SPLIT SQUATS (10s) BAR-30-35 Ow.
SAVICKAS PRESS (5s) 45-45-45

Legs were trashed. Massive pump... Preparing to dominate the commute on Monday. ;) :D

Oh, how weak my legs are! :( :D

POWERCLEAN (2s) 70-80-90-90 A couple of full cleans, but nothing interesting.
SNATCH PULLS (5s) 90-110-110
SNATCH GRIP SLDLS (5s) 110-120-130
LAT RAISE ss/w OH BARBELL EXTENSIONS (12s) All of them.
BARBELL 21s Two sets, trying to get some blood into my elbow. Probably counter-productive... But awesome pump. :o

I have started commuting on a bike because I am a cheapskate, I'm afraid.

Driving into and back out of Cambridge requires too much organisation and - now that I have moved office - no gym at work. As such, I train at some unholy hour in the morning (06:15) to get the reps in, then drive fifteen miles to a free car park, and cycle the final ten miles in.

This means I get to miss the majority of the traffic and also terrify Lycra cyclists on their drop-handled bikes. ;)

It isn't what I really want, but I have come tot the conclusion that I am never really going to train properly because my access to cool lifting areas is quite limited at the moment. I dropped a 90kg clean last night on its way up because I didn't have the bar gripped in a hook grip, and it bounced on the padded zones I have on the floor... but my wife suggested I move to some lighter stuff because it was too noisy. :(

I can't even see properly yet, never mind chucking about any kind of weight!

Road cycling? Shudders! Though it's really not that bad is it? I'd imagine Cambridge is quite flat anyway and it's only 100miles a week? I would do the exact same if my transport to work wasn't paid for by work.

What the ego demands, the body must deliver.

Had a tyre-shredder of a puncture this morning - going to see who locally stocks Schwalbe Ultra-Marathons or whatever they're called. :o
