Couple of Corolla T-Sport questions!

it is only if you want it to be, you obviously want to paint it as the detriment of Toyota, but the fact is they do lots in house, take Toyota motosport gmbh, why do several f1 teams use this facility? its because its hugely respected and several company's look to them for assistance.

not all parts for engines are made by the manufacturer that sticks its badge on the car. nothing new.

nothing new about someone trying to paint a picture of a manufacturer in a negative light because of some stupid argument and an incredibly simplistic point of view just like you have.

I actually made my other comment in jest, I'm a big fan of Toyota's.

why lol, Toyota make decent parts but fail to put a decent car together most of the time, and Honda concentrate more these days on selling an idea rather than a good product. They all fail.

Can't say I have ever come across a Toyota that's fallen to bits, both have gone through a rough patch mind, the accountants took over Toyota and were just hell bent on becoming the biggest car maker so standards fell, and Honda have gone through a terrible leadership period, there is a new man in town though so things are moving in the right direction again.

The only good thing to come out of Toyota since this 2zz engine is the GT86. Even then it's still not 100% their own.
Saying that they made that Aygo Crazy thing a while back which looked fun.

Honestly my T sport is a great car. Do I regret buying it at all. Nope. It's fun and different. It just shows even Toyota can do a decent job half hearted. Imagine what they could do if they gave it 100%.

I would like to add that there is no Facelift Corolla in Japan. Also there is no compressor version. It was only made for European market and UK. In Japan they have 5 door RunX RS I believe that what's it's called over there.

not what I meant, Toyota are a great engineering company just like the rest, but they can't seem to bring it together into a decent car. If they make a good engine they put it in a mediocre chassis, make a good chassis and put s mediocre engine in it.

Guys, I don't know what tyres are currently fitted to the car (only that they are all legal and that two of them were replaced a few months ago) - but I will have a close look at them of course.

Are tyres with an incorrect speed rating illegal? Or, are they going to invalidate insurance? I believe the 'rolla should have V rated tyres, but if it has been owned by someone who isn't a car person, it might have ended up with lower speed rating tyres on it.

I plan on getting a set of new tyres anyway, but if the currently fitted ones are illegal/insurance invalidating, then I could use that as a bargaining chip.

You're right about the insurance they need to match or exceed the original specifications of what the manufacturer puts on or they will invalidate the insurance. I do not believe it is illegal though, but certainly worth trying to get some money off for.

The main issue is ending up in a ditch and/or tree :p

Ah I see, well thats because there cars are designed by a committee, if they gave their engineers free reign to make the blueprint it would be a different story.

Case in point is the BRZ/GT86, the suited and booted men don't allow Subaru to get their spanners out on it.

Depends on how you look at it, from a pure hardcore fanboy point of view its a negative as Toyota can't build anything in house, just a company run by accountants, whereas you look at Honda they are an engineering led company.

I think some of the parts for 2JZ was made by Yamaha.

Toyota has shares in Yamaha! Same with Denso and many other companies. I would say Toyota is more in house than any other marque in the world as they own a controlling interest in the company.

It would be silly for them to start competing with companies they partially own!

No they don't, not even close. Toyotas shareholding is just 5% , absolutely nowhere near a controlling interest.

Good luck on viewing the car, hope it turns out to be decent but if you take any advice on board don't let the excitement run away with you, anything that doesn't add up or look right walk away straight away

Make sure you check the coolant level, it should be pink and its easy to see the level, if its low these are very common for leaking rads, check the passenger side carpet for damp from the matrix, check the heaters blow hot

All 3 of my VVTLI engine cars have had a rattle from the exhaust manifold heat shield, most noticeable at 2/3k RPM

Cant think of anything any thing else at the moment if I do I'll post it at some point during the day

I think some of the parts for 2JZ was made by Yamaha.

The 1JZ-GTE had the head design done by Yamaha (hence their logo on the engine cover) and the turbo design done by Hitachi. When Toyota enlarged the block to create the 2JZ-GTE they had a German firm make some refinements to the head design and used different Hitachi turbochargers (in a sequential configuration instead of the parallel configuration employed on the 1JZ-GTE).

In fairness given their alliance with Yamaha motors I'm sure they have considerable weight in that subsidiary. The capital exchange just solidifies that.

They just have some small percentage of shares in Yamaha, they have no controlling stake and Yahama is very much an independent company. They always call upon Yamaha to come and design key parts of their engines as quite simply they don't have the range of engineers or expertise in that area, whereas Yamaha have some of the finest engineers around, especially in the performance field. The LFA engine is pretty much mostly Yamaha engineering despite their claims that Yamaha only did some tuning to it.

Probably the reason why they bought some shares is to protect their interests and prevent other partners Yahama works with sharing or getting hands on technology Toyota's use.

Anyway this is really off topic, my initial post was just said in jest, didnt mean to start a debate! :p
