COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

We're back to that time of year where vaccinated individuals like myself question whether they are having a bad tree pollen hayfever day, or is it COVID?

... Very similar symptoms.
We both had a similar situation two or three weeks ago. Had what can best be described as "Not quite a cold..." Sore throat accompanied by coughing and later sneezy runny nose. Wife had a cough and blocked nose but not the sore throat. Both did several LF tests, all negative. But it definitely did not play out like a normal cold, i.e. four or five days of sore throat, then the runny nose and feeling a bit carp and finally a week of coughing. Guess we will never know.

In the meantime, despite the rising cases it seems the UK is now shuffling Covid very much under the carpet. Little coverage on MSM (though my wife still picks up on some of the conspiracy nonsense circling on YT), can't order any more LF tests, big local testing centre in the south of Swindon closing in the next few days. There's still some residual signage in the supermarkets, Perspex screens etc. and the hospital still insisting on mask wearing. OCUK closing down their dedicated sub forum. To all intents and purposes you would be forgiven for thinking it's all over...

Thought I was going down with it on the way back from work Monday - but seem fine so far - had what seemed like the beginning of a sore throat, general aches, fatigue with brain fog, etc. and later started to feel very cold - but after a nap been absolutely fine. With about 20% staff off currently with COVID surprised it wasn't.

Think it was more a few stressful days at work finally catching up with me having to cover for people off sick while also managing around major changes at work which haven't gone at all to plan.

So according to the ONS - only 64% of people testing positive are now isolating....and that presumably includes a fair proportion that inevitably said they did but didnt !

Also disappointing though not unexpected to see the replies when someone on a local Facebook group shared information posted by the local district hospital of rising cases and urging people to try and be a little more considerate... reams of empty headed rubbish about it being "just a cold", "only 15,000 people actually died from it", etc. etc. for context it has been rising rapidly in this area after being relatively low levels through most of the pandemic.

The morons are still out there unfortunately. I don't think they change their tune until they kill their granny.
It's been like that since the beginning, so I don't expect it to change.

I'm pretty much 'fine' now, dreg ends of a cold. Can't tell if my slight need to breath in deeper is new or what I used to have to do anyway sometimes prior to infection - I had x-rays and MRIs to see what was wrong around Oct 2019 and they couldn't find anything.

Line was barely there this morning so should be clear by the weekend.

My grandad is still testing strongly positive 10 days on - bit of an issue as he needs a lot of care but not ill enough to go into hospital. Two people who were in contact with him >5 days since symptoms have subsequently gone down with COVID though can't be 100% that is where they picked it up but is the most likely explanation.

I had a dental appointment cancelled because the dentist said he had covid, Got booked in with a different dentist there and had some work done, now seems I'm getting cold symptoms

I was at the Infusion Clinic in the local hospital this morning. A couple of doctors popped in to speak with the person in the next chair, one of whom started to cough vigorously, after a while they had the sense to leave the room but if it was Covid then the damage already done. And never mind the other patients in the vicinity including myself, the person they were speaking with was being treated for lupus which, by all accounts, is a rather unpleasant autoimmune condition!

was everyone masked up?

everyone at my GP surgery still seems to use masks and my dental clinic 90% of people have been wearing masks.

don't see much use of them outside of medical settings any more though.

any time I've seen someone cough or sneeze In the street I've been giving them a wide berth

Nobody whinges about "some people want us to be terrified of drunk drivers". We accept that drunk-driving affects the lives of others and is anti-social, therefore we arrest people found over the limit.
We accept that second-hand smoke can cause cancer in other people, so we accept that people can't smoke in indoor spaces.
We accept that shoddy building work can cause the deaths of residents, so we have building regulations to try to mitigate this.
We accept that people can die of food-poisoning when food providers are not clean, so we try to mitigate this by putting in place hygiene measures.
We accept that a child in school with measles or chicken pox can spread this disease to others so we ask them to stay off school for a certain length of time. We know that norovirus can last 48 hours after the vomiting has stopped, but again we ask children to stop off school for 48 hours after the last vomiting incident.
These are all normal mitigations we accept because most of us are reasonable people who understand that our personal choices can impact on the rest of society. Unfortunately, we have a minority of people who think 'personal responsibility' means "I can do whatever I want because I don't care a fig about how my actions impact others."
Stay off work if you have Covid.
Isolate to stop the spread.
Wear a mask to protect others.
Wash your hands properly and give others space.
These are hardly difficult measures to keep

I keep having to bite my tongue at the " I wish we had just carried on as normal if no10 can have a party"
I'm like, Why? Do you love your family and friends less because someone else ignored the rules??

Yes although mostly the cheapo ones the NHS provide at the point of entry. Not got much faith in their ability to stop something getting in (or out), in the face of a sustained coughing fit.

i am just back now aftr being very bad with covid for over a month. i spent a week in bed and then i just havenot been in a position to do anytjing at all. it hit me very badly.

I am not overweight, i am normally perfectly healthy.

are you the type of **** who says it is only flu? **** off.

covid is not over, the figures show that. if you chose to stick your head in the sand and deny it then i have nothing but contempt for you.

I'm not the type of person that says that and you can check my posts in the old thread to verify.

You sound like an extremely bitter and angry individual.
