COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

Developed an sore throat and a stuffed up and runny nose throughout yesterday. Did tests all day at work and all negative. Currently supping a blackcurrant Lemsip with a spoon of honey in it. Will pop a couple of paracetamol before bed too.

Snap, except I am on the lemon MAX ones, mine started couple days ago.

I have seen this loads on this thread, people think they have COVID but tests negative....are tests inaccurate or people just assuming all illness is COVID?

LFTs aren't very reliable for latest strains, plus the other factor is the latest strains are associated with a prodromal phase ie. they cause mild symptoms during the incubation period during which LFTs won't test positive as the viral load isn't high enough. This is why some ( with the latest strains ) are taking 7-8 days to test positive.

LFTs have never been particularly accurate have they, however the government figures for positive tests and hospital admissions seem to be on the rise again and there seems to be a correlation.
I just can’t see Covid going away anytime soon and will probably get a lot worse soon. IMO we really need a full roll out of vaccines again to keep a lid on it.

The FlowFlex tests so far have detected Omicron variants fine, though there is no data for Pirola yet but the mutations shouldn't have much implications for the antigen testing.

Some other brands/older NHS tests can take longer to detect or struggle with some of the newer variants.

I've had no issues with LFTs being inaccurate per se personally, it caught my infection just fine.

However I swab both throat and nose, not just nose. Seems to catch it when it just begins within the throat. Most people get the initial signs, test once, then when it is negative assume they don't have it.

I still have about 8 boxes of the FlowFlex and they have had no issue detecting whatever strain of Covid I'm positive with this week. The antigen tests test for a specific protein as far as I'm aware which isn't part of the virus that has mutated.

Started with a sore head and a tight chest 2-3 days ago, ended up with a cough and full body aches and pains and a temp over 38c.

2nd time I've had covid, first time was Jan 2021 so probably Omicron back then.

Everybody of all ages in the NHS were offered it before Covid and before I joined the NHS in 2008 I was having mine every year off the GP.

The advert that just came on the radio mentioned older people and those that may be eligible.

I'm sure you can get it if you asked?. I have no interest in it myself, but I guess there must be schemes for those that feel a bit more vulnerable.

Do you still do tests?

If I remember correctly You've got vulnerable family or are vulnerable yourself right?

This, people feeling terrible for a few days, then about a week passes before the test actually shows something.
