COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

How comes some doctors still insist on phone appointments still?

In some situations it's a good idea, but some doctors seem to have adopted the approach permanently.

yup same with my doctors they are meant to be calling me today.

For me luckily Ive not had to go to doctors (touch wood), I suffer from asthma, but generally I can get by with a phone appointment if I need some extra medication, but I know some people that have had to send photos of said problem, instead of an in person appointment, pretty poor really.

It made me think that surely if doctors opened up a bit more now it might take a little bit of strain off the hospitals. I was watching the bbc breakfast earlier and that 94yo that had a fall and waited ages for ambulance and subsequently died in hospital really got me:(

Perhaps in some cases due to doctors still being as restricted as they try to be, illnesses that should be treatable by just going to the doctors are getting worse for some and they then need to use A&E instead.

Trying to get a doctors appointment round here, just don't even bother. I wanted to take my 3 year old to the doctors he has had a bad cold and cough for almost a week and his nose keeps bleeding which is the point where you start to think its worth taking them.

Didn't even bother, it's so difficult to get a appointment that we just say "lets leave him for 1 or 2 more days to see how he is" but that is when things can go wrong and get more serious, it does annoy me because COVID has been used as an excuse for doctors to do even less then they did before, and it wasn't perticually easy to get an apointment before all this mess in the first place.

Went to a supplier visit earlier in the week, and it's the first time in a year I've had to sign a covid predeclaration and come armed with a negative test (I actually forgot, but they had tests at their reception). They also supplied masks for people who hadn't been vaccinated. The reason is that they have some clinically vulnerable people working there - and of course want to protect them.

The way they handled it was subtle, and seamless. One of the people there (not a colleague) didn't want to tell them of their vaccination status, which I didn't understand - so he had to wear a mask to come in.

The way I see it, you're visiting someone else's domain, you follow their rules. Just like I expect people to take their shoes off when visiting my house. You follow the requests of your hosts. Even if you disagree with it, is it such a hassle?

It's hard to do a prostrate exam with a phone, especially with a large 6"+ phone, doesn't half smart.

Jokes aside, the nurses that were on the front line in hospitals, went in and carried on their jobs in person day after day, which is very important for not only the reassurance but the patient care/aftercare element. GP Doctors seem to feel they are exempt from doing that - and the risk now is a lot lower than it was at the peak. Proactive health care in this country is pretty awful at the moment.

Hopefully asthmatics are not ignored aga

My doctors done face to face for 10 months now. Even saw one face 2 face in lockdown as she needed to feel a lump. Can't do that over the phone.
Think for things such as extending a sick note doesn't need face 2 face.

Almost impossible to get into my doctors surgery. Doesn't help that they all seem to have gone part time.
They were always part time or split shift I thought.

How I long for the days before covid when you could just phone up your doctors at anytime of the day and get an oppointment for any time or day you wanted.

Pretty sure it’s a secondary bacterial infection at this point. Hard to tell if it’s improving or not, although the lack of a fever would suggest it is. I’ll see how it progresses tomorrow, I may need antibiotics. The last time I held out with a chest infection without getting antibiotics I nearly hospitalised myself, but at least this one is nowhere near as bad.
Urgh thats why I've always worn FFP masks thru lockdown and other periods when it was rampant I dread any kind of chest infection it always ends up as a secondary and a visit to the doctor/hospital and a couple packets of antibiotics and several weeks of misery. Still not had covid touch wood.

Oh yeah you can't get a face to face here usually have to go thru NHS 111 as well despite building a mahoosive new surgery/clinic building a couple years back

To be honest it was difficult even then I was told to call in person at 8.30a.m. sharp or whenever it opened and speak directly to reception and you may get an appointment sometime that week dont' even try phoning you're wasting your time.

Why do people have reverted back to the disgusting habit of holding money in their mouths or lick their fingers to separate notes?

They won’t like it if the shop staff did that before they give money to them!

My GP mostly uses e-consult now (which I find handier than calling at 8am). If tests are needed or a face-to-face then I can call up anytime, mention what was said in the e-consult, and get an appointment no problem.

Much better than the mess before pre-COVID tbh.

How long before covid was that?

I can't remember that in 25 years.

Mostly just a minor head cold now with a rare cough. The crap coming up has reduced.

Going to try a light workout tomorrow. Physically I’m feeling stronger, will be interesting to see how it goes.

Will also test tomorrow to see where I’m at.

As soon as someone doesn't want to say if they've been vacinated its obvious they haven't been I find.
