****CRACKING deal on 4GB 8500 Kits from Kingston @ £39.99 Inc****

Not ordered yet - may run out of time and decision made.

The thing that's holding me up at the moment is whether I really need 4GB.

I use XP 32bit and have no plans to move to XP 64bit, Vista or anything else - I might do in the future but it will be some years off.

I have 2GB of Corsair 800 at the moment - so my main interest in the new RAM is the faster speed.

As I understand it XP 32bit can handle 4GB but will only see around 2.5GB.

Is system memory required to match the graphics memory - my GFX card has 320MB so does this mean I will 'lose' 320MB of the system memory to match it.

If so would that 320GB comes from the 2.5GB windows addressable system memory or would it use the 1.5GB above.

Also can windows use the 1.5GB instead of hard disk page swap?

Basically, if I get 4GB how much of it will my XP 32bit system be able to use?

I appreciate the arguments - "if you expand in the future etc" but let's assume I'm not going to.

Appreciate your thoughts.

Cheers,

Nigel

You will find xp uses 3.25 gb of ram.

If you have a 64bit processor its a waste not using it i am going vista as i have seen the benefits.

I got mine today very happy with them :) I added a reveiw, a lot of people have said its hard to get 8 gb runnign at 1066 but these run fine.

With my striker formula mobo and my e8600 @ 4ghz, my pc is so responsive now. They seem really stable just had a few hours on tf2 with no problems.

Really tempted to overclock them now, they can run at 2.3v according to the sticker and they only running at 2.1 atm.

Any one else overclcoked these yet?

I really think these would go even higher, gaming for a hour or so now and all seems fine there not even hot to touch, unlike my old ram that would melt your figners.

I could proberly push them higher but i like having the fsb and ram linked.

533MHz Real

1066MHz effective (Double Data Rate)

DDR2-1066

PC2-8500

all the same!

[edit] Using a single stick of DDR2 memory doesn't slow down that single stick, its still Double Data rate running on a 64-bit Memory Bus. Using two sticks doesn't effect the speed of the individual sticks but the overall system memory bandwidth goes up because now its working in Dual-Channel over a 128-bit Memory Bus!

thanks for that,

will order tonight :D

Don't think they would send ram through the post there more likey to get damaged that way.

Added a few pics i think they look awesome ( for ram ) esspecily in my case with all my blueness

Hi there. Im wondering that if i buy these to replace my "Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX (2x2GB)" would i see any benefits? Im using an ASUS P5k PRO and Q6600(stock), HD4870 512 and Vista64bit as my set up. If its worthwhile id buy this, what do you all think?

aaaaah boo i checked cpu z and they wasnt actually running at 1280mhz :(

Will try overclocking them tonight when i have more time to fiddle and test properly.

anyways heres screenshot of the spd u asked for and a few other things

still think its good 1066mhz or so @2.1 volts and 8gb. Compaired to my old ram which wouldnt even boot at 4gb.

2x1GB OCZ Reaper 9200 (2.1V) @ DDR2-1133 5-5-5-18
