Creative = For Shame

As said, use line out to a headphone amp, if you need another line out some have dual sets of RCA outputs so not losing anything. I use headphones but instead of getting the X-Fi front panel or the flagship Xi-Fi just bought a Hi-Fi amp with headphone amp.

Sorry slightly confused. I have one socket used that goes to an amp (on othe side of the room), and headphones plugged into an amp, which in turn is plugged into the front bay. I would prefer to have both plugged in at once rather than fiddle with cables and whatnot.

I'm having a look through OcUK's sound cards, are there anythere that will do what you have just stated? :)

Alternatives to sound cards?

Exactly. There are none, reason for CL arrogance. Even if you buy a auzentech money is still going to CL. And you won't buy a M-Audio because doesn't support newer EAX modes even though in music they sound better.

If you could draw a diagram in paint. This is my PC audio setup. stereo amp has speaker switching, can switch off the outputs (must have when using headphones) Another amp I had/have - 8000S/8000Q does it automatically (relay switches off speaker outputs when phones are plugged in)

have to agree with a lot of the comments on the creative forums i will not buy any more creative products from now on after what they have done there, its disgusting and you dont see this kind of thing in the graphics or processors area :( bye bye creative might sell my none working xfi card on fleabay and see about a different company like asus

That could be a selling point for me - I very rarely play games and if I do then I play it offline, then complete it and sell it on. Music and DVD's are what I use my computer a lot more for.

If you could draw a diagram in paint.

This is the plan of what I have in my room.

Creative do suck for all types of support. This is just silly though.

Got a replacement for my Xtreme Music 4 weeks after I sent it back to them, tried it in Vista and after 20 mins use I took it out and threw it in the box and I havnt touched it since and prolly never will.

Well, I've had Creative for years, since their SoundBlaster16 cards in my Pentium 133Mhz back in 1996. I currently have an Audigy2 ZS Plat. I will never buy a Creative card again.

I know what they are saying about the Intellectual property, given that I've studied law, but I am still a consumer, and I feel it right to stand with the consumer here. If they won't give it full potential, then I won't buy their equipment. I will not be forced into buying new hardware when the items I own are already fully capable but crippled intentionally.

Fully agree here, I'm definitly not going to buy a Creative soundcard ever again infact any other product from Creative if they cannot be bothered to support products when 1 person like this Daniel K can do what Creative do not want to do.

I hope Creative go out of business I hate them now.

On March 5th, 1998[1], Creative Labs sued Aureal for patent infringement. Aureal countersued because they believed Creative was guilty of patent infringement. After numerous lawsuits Aureal won a favorable ruling in December 1999, which vindicated Aureal from these patent infringement claims, but the legal costs were too high and Aureal filed for bankruptcy. On September 21st, 2000, Creative acquired Aureal's assets from its bankruptcy trustee for US$ 32 million. The purchase included patents, trademarks, other property, as well as a release to Creative from any infringement by Creative of Aureal's intellectual property including A3D. The purchase effectively eliminated Creative's only competition in the gaming audio market. It also eliminated any requirements for Creative to pay past or future royalties as well as damages for products which incorporated Aureal's technology.

Wow. I think I will bin my soundcard now, and use the onboard....

I would say that is almost tantamount to an abuse of process. Perhaps they had this intention in mind before bringing their action. They had the financial muscle. I wonder what the EU competition stance is on this.

It's amazing what one little wrong move for a company can do. Thousands of people vowing never to buy a card again...

I think CL don't care. They got your money...

Creative: Fixing Our Crippled Sound Card Drivers Is "Stealing our Goods"

Creative Labs, makers of sound cards that still don't work properly with Windows Vista, doesn't want fixed versions of its broken drivers on the net.

In a message to "Daniel_K," who repaired their broken software, Creative Labs' Phil O'Shaughnessy claims that by restoring functionality to Vista drivers that's offered in Windows XP versions, he is a thief:

"By enabling our technology and IP to run on sound cards for which it was not originally offered or intended, you are in effect, stealing our goods," writes O'Shaughnessy at Creative's forums.

Granted, Daniel_K is soliciting donations. Furthermore, the gear's EULA specifies, as is usual, that you can't tamper with its software. But why would a company set out to prevent people from helping one another fix problems in hardware it's already sold them?

The answer is the sad one you've probably learned to expect: O'Shaughnessy admits that Creative Labs intentionally crippled its Vista drivers as a business strategy:

"If we choose to develop and provide host-based processing features with certain sound cards and not others, that is a business decision that only we have the right to make."

Baffling, yes, but also its prerogative. You can easily find the fixed drivers.

Can anyone summarise what features he's enabled that don't work on Vista etc? I haven't been following driver updates etc. as my X-Fi seems to work fine in Vista for the few games I play on it.

Amazed at the stance Creative have taken on this.
