Creative = For Shame

I have the xtreme fatalit1y edition, and would be mega phished to know that they are disabling features when it is what I paid for (2nd hand however). (thankfully ati drivers are stopping Vista from even working so can't use Vista anyway with my 3870 d'oh!)

That DDL on the X-FI is interesting though. Does that mean this feature is the same as the old Nvidia NF2 Sound Force chips that encode to DDL on the fly so you can output to a proper DD amp?

Matthew

it was called D.I.C.E on the NF2 boards but yes its the same thing in principal:)

Creative purposedly modified the Audigy drivers to disable some features when Vista is detected and also purposedly introduced some bugs to prevent some XP utilities from running.

The cheek of them!

As Auzentech pay Creative for the X-Fi license, if enough people buy them will this be enough to keep Creative afloat?
Or will the backlash mean Auzentech products will be boycotted until they sever all links with Creative?

Bring Back Gravis Ultrasound!! Wavetables ***

I wouldn't worry about the politics, just buy a card your happy with...

Well I think to be fair, the two are quite related. Maybe at first you'd be happy with whatever creative card you had. But you're certainly going to be less happy if you found out they were deliberately screwing up features on your card to 'encourage' you to buy the new one.

Yep buy an xfi 2 for vista, buy xfi 3 for windows 7 ect...

There is no need for them to be doing this except for greed.

The only reason why I keep buying Creative products is because I need cards with break out boxes/live drives (handy for video and audio editing stuff with various connectors). If anyone can suggest another card with break out box that works under vista my X-Fi goes bye bye next week.

^Any stereo pre-amp - or av amp if you need 5.1, with any standard (even onboard audio) And at least you can keep the pre-amp for dozens of soundcard upgrades, rather than buying one all the time.

Ive had a few minor problems with the XFi but all sorted.
However this incident will make me think about purchasing Creative products in the future. May even consider to utilise onboard audio next time!

Onboard can be ok if you use the optical or spdif out. Analogue outs often leave something to be desired tho. Also, onboard is often useless for ASIO apps.

I've been using onboard for god knows how many years now! :p

Keep meaning to buy a decent card, then just...forget. I've always been weiry of getting the X-fi's due to hearing about so many breaking and not working properly. But all this put the icing on the cake really!

Would it be worth to have a sound card though? If all I do is game and have a bit of music on the comp...?

It depends on how important sound is to you. Personally I spent more on my sound card than on my GFX card...

Also, there is no point in getting something totally wizz bang like the Emu 1616m, then only connecting it to crappy PC speakers... What speakers or headphones are you using?

Well sounds important yes...But I only have some old Labtec speakers I brought ages ago, literally two speakers and sub.

I'm more for getting a card just to offload work from the comp so to speak...Just let the card do its thing in the background.

They're just trying to brush the whole thing under the carpet, I'd be very surprised if they provided a proper response to the recent criticism they've faced (saying that they will support third party modders is not the answer people wanted).

Once it's blown over, it'll be business as usual, and that'll be when their XFI 2 card appears, ready to make mugs of more people who are unaware of just how shoddy a company they have become in recent years.
